  1. Muir "fact checked" Trump several times, doing Kamala's work for her, but not once "fact checked" Kamala and even let her spin the huge lie that "many" Capitol Hill police died on January 6th. One officer died days later of health problems but not ONE police officer died on January 6th. The bias was palpable. But it's what we (and Trump expected). It was also very clear that Kamala got the questions in advance and spent a week practicing her answers. Kamala was also allowed to have her mike unmuted so she could interrupt Trump, a violation of the debate rules. Favorite moment? When Trump told Kamala "I'm talking now--does that sound familiar?" when the debate moderators turned on her mike so she could interrupt Trump. I roared with laughter: 'HE SAID IT! HE SAID THE THING!'

  2. I worked for DoD auditing compliance from our contractors, trying to ensure that the taxpayers got what they paid for. A contractor in a certain Southern state billed the US government for completed work, when in fact it never did ANY work. So I refused to authorize payment. My supervisor got a call later that day from a furious congressman in that contractor's district, demanding to know why we weren't going to pay. We stood our ground. Skip forward to the following week, and an assistant secretary of defense overruled us and authorized payment even though we couldn't certify any work done nor goods received. That happened a lot whenever we audited contractors; a member of Congress would intervene and get us overruled. Mechanisms are in place to keep folks honest, but Congress subverts them. We need a truly independent system that can't be circumvented by interfering politicians, but Congress doesn't want that. We, the people, need to demand better work from our Congress. My story? It's from 1986. So I won't hold my breath waiting on reform.

  3. I was shocked by Yellen's testimony. Secretary Yellen clearly didn't have any idea what was in the proposed budget. If I showed up that unprepared to a meeting at my job, I'd be fired. Increasing the budget by $500 billion during a time of inflation is shockingly reckless.

Actually, if you eliminate five cities from the gun violence statistics--New York, Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles--from the statistics, the US is one of the safest countries in the world for crime. Couple of three questions for you guys: Who rules those five cities? Who commits most of the violent crime in those five cities? Who benefits from perpetuating the myth that our entire country is riddled with gun violence when it's absolutely not true?

  7. When I was a teacher, we caught a student who pulled the fire alarm to disrupt final exams. The principal expelled him from school. A grown-ass congressman just got lighter consequences for a far more serious offense than a 16 year old kid who didn't study for his test.

  14. When I started as a teacher thirty years ago, the process of stripping out "shop class" (aka "the industrial arts") began in our schools. It was a process of feminizing the schools, but we need to bring that back. I had many boys (and a few girls) express a great interest in learning how to use tools, and even if that doesn't become your livelihood, it's a good life skill to have. Want to lift poor kids of all colors out of poverty? Shop class in high school, followed by technical school (all expenses paid) and a paid apprenticeship as a plumber, carpenter, electrician, welder, auto mechanic, etc. They'll earn a decent wage and have a meaningful life BUILDING things. My dad was in construction all his life and he used to drive us past a building and point to and say "See that? I helped build that!" Things my dad built 50 years ago are still standing to this day, and may stand for 50-100 years longer. I don't care what color or gender my plumber is, I only care that the person knows their stuff and can do good work at a fair price.

I hated it because I lost touch with my colleagues and with my students, but our union listened to the MINORITY of teachers who wanted to teach from home, even though the MAJORITY of us made it clear we wanted to teach in person.

Here's what I would've done (assuming Yellen's estimate of SVB's failure posing systematic risk is accurate): I would've offered the depositors two options. Option One: FDIC keeps 10% of your deposit as a fee for guaranteeing the remaining 90% over the $250k limit Option Two: FDIC only covers you to the $250k limit and you take you chances recovering the rest of your money from the bank's assets 100% of the depositors would've taken Option One unless they're insane, and since SVB had $175 billion in uninsured deposits, that's $17.5 billion straight into the FDIC deposit insurance fund. A more than fair deal for the uninsured depositors. But the real reason SVB's rich depositors were 100% failed out without any cost to themselves is because 100% of them are big Democratic Party donors. Let's not pretend this wasn't a corrupt and bad deal from start to finish, ok? And no, I don't want to hear about Trump this and Trump that. He hasn't been president for over two years. This is on Biden's watch and this is his responsibility. And his people screwed it up. On purpose.

Inflation isn't 3%; it's many times that, and groceries are still going up by double digits.   41. Senator Lankford of Oklahoma asked Janet Yellen if ALL accounts over $250k are now covered by the FDIC. Yellen's response was that they're only covered IF she and the FDIC decide that not covering those uninsured accounts poses "systemic risk" to the banking system. Which means the account has to be in a "too big to fail" bank. But both the head of Signature and SBV lobbied Congress to not apply Dodd-Frank reserve requirements to them, because their banks were too small to pose "systemic risk". So Yellen and the FDIC are pushing people towards the big banks and trying to kill regional and community banks. Not only that, but "systemic risk" is just cover for "rich people we care about were going to lose some of their money". Socialism for the rich, rugged capitalism for the rest of us. The corruption in Washington, D.C. has never been worse.

All but one are either saying that nothing different could've been done about the wildfires, or that it's Trump's fault for spreading "misinformation" and "not supporting Mayor Bass and Governor Newsom." In other words, the people they voted for are not to blame and the man who's been president for six days is somehow responsible. There will be no accountability and therefore no change.   50. There's a real split between the leadership of the teachers unions and the membership. I was a teacher for thirty years. Most of my colleagues opposed remote school during the pandemic, but the leadership and administration supported it, so that's what we got. We'd vote out one set out of union leaders and the new ones would be just as bad as the old. I once ran for a union position as a reformer and was the target of a smear campaign--still got 35% of the vote, but the dirty tactics used against me left a bitter taste in my mouth. The only time I got ANY action out of my union on ANY issue was after the Janus case, where the Supreme Court ruled that we teachers could opt out of paying dues. I sent a "Janus letter" to my union as a last resort, revoking their right to collect dues from me--THEN they suddenly leapt into action on my case and got the administration to stop requiring me to work overtime without pay. I'd spent nearly a year on that issue, and all I had to do to get the union to act was to threaten to stop paying them. Weingarten is extremely corrupt and needs to go. Whatever her agenda is, it's NOT what's good for students nor teachers. Her entire administration is stuffed with her cronies (who all have to be members of the Rainbow Tribe) who get paid a lot to do very little.
