I saw this happen in Los Angeles: over a period of years, merchants fled majority-black areas of the city, and the looters responded by traveling to areas with a majority of whites and Hispanics to loot stores there--which didn't go well for them. Every time a store closes because of losses from theft, it's guaranteed it will NEVER re-open, which is why there are larger and larger swathes of Los Angeles where there are NO stores of any kind. I know a young black woman who tried to start a "black owned" grocery store in an "underserved" area of town, and she quickly learned WHY it was "underserved"--she and her partners ended up closing the store and moving it to a white/Hispanic/Asian neighborhood, where it finally made a profit. If I owned a business, it'd be a bookstore, for two reasons: 1. I love books and 2. I notice those NEVER get looted.

  3. 100% right. This is why I tell people: if you want to buy a house that's guaranteed to soar in value, buy in an all-black neighborhood. It's a "can't fail" strategy.

  4. I'm glad I'm 60, because I got to experience a lot of years where America was a good and hopeful place to live. Memories are all we have now; there is no future.
