I deliberately avoided Trevor Noah on the Daily Show until recently because I wanted to be fair to him and give him time to settle into the role. Omg. Noah is SO bad. So very very very bad. He must go.

How to stop the big banks: break them up into much smaller banks. Problem solved.

Where's the beef?

No one in their right mind is arguing that Simon and Schuster had no right to offer M.Y. a book deal. They absolutely have a right to do that. What people like me are upset with is that Simon and Schuster have chosen to lend the prestige and resources of their venerable firm to a hatemongering douchebag. Get it now?

@bovinityleak2066 RBG's refusal to retire when she should've and could've is made far worse by the fact that she was in full possession of her faculties, which means her decision was driven by pure ego.

Maher has gone from being an independent thinker to punching down. He's a man who blames the Greens/Naderites, transgendered activists, Black Lives Matter, et al, for the very real and blatant failings of the Democratic establishment. Clinton lost because she didn't fucking go to Wisconsin and Michigan to shore up her vote there. Clinton lost because she sneered at working class whites as "a basket of deplorables" and was the cheerleader for mass incarceration of blacks during her husband's presidency. Clinton is a warmonger who was, and still is, beating the drum for an armed confrontation with Russia in Syria.

The Democratic Party is beyond saving. It's a hopeless captive of Wall Street. The only way out of this is a movement that will establish another party. It will be very hard work but we should've started 15-20 years ago. The lesser of two evils has gotten us the worst. No more.

@Steven Millar: You, sir, have won the Internet. Your prize is 20 lbs of Trump Steaks™
3
@Angela Colasanti The median income of Trump supporters is $72,000. I live in a very wealthy neighborhood and 45% of my neighbors voted for Trump. Only 51% of college educated white women voted for Clinton. What's that about "low class trash" again? That kind of classism is part of what got us into this sorry mess. Quit looking down and start looking up.

Smaller banks will actually employ MORE people and if they fail, they won't burn down the world economy. Problem. Solved.

All I know is that when we had small banks in Kansas, you could talk to the banker, who was a member of your community and depended on the community's good will. So if a farmer fell a few payments behind but could make it good later, the banker would let him slide. The big megabanks will foreclose if you're 27 cents behind (which is literally what Trump's nominee for Treasury Secretary, Steve Mnuchin, did: he foreclosed on a 90 year old widow who was 27 cents short on her mortgage payment).

Republics never regenerate absent a total defeat (for example, Germany and Japan were utterly defeated in WW2). So no, it doesn't look good.

Jack Burton, do you have anything other than half-assed racism and personal insults to offer the world? Didn't think so.

My mom just turned 89 and she's pretty sharp, BUT she does ask me the same questions several times a day. Example: I was taking a trip and my mom asked how I was going to get from the airport to the hotel (answer: Uber). She asked me that question several times that day, same answer, every time. But I consider mom still competent to manage her affairs because she writes down things that she knows will be important and consults her notebook. My mom's management of her daily life is about all she can manage and that's fine for 89. No way could she handle all of the responsibility of Senator Feinstein. And neither can Senator Feinstein. Is the answer age limits? I think so. We have a floor in the Constitution (25 for the House, 30 for the Senate, 35 for the presidency), so why not a ceiling? In the Founding Fathers time, most people dropped dead in their sixties or seventies--they didn't foresee people living on into their eighties and nineties and not voluntarily relinquishing power. I advocated for age limits when Reagan was first elected--you can't run again if you're over 70, which would've denied Reagan a second term and Biden a first.

Love it when other people tell me what my priorities should be. Cheney was known for more than being an Internet troll: he was a high-ranking government official who had a story to tell. Milo's book won't sell, anyway. S&S wasted their 250k.
1
Milo hasn't done anything except make a few people's lives miserable by harassing them. His harassment of Leslie Jones led to Twitter banning him for life. He's nothing but a whiny little punk.
1
I don't run Twitter. Anybody who makes hateful comments should be kicked off. Now calm down and take a cold shower. A long one.

Wtf do I care if Scahill is getting older? Shut up, punk.

Not to worry, it'll all come out in the end.

@kay jay If you include the Byzantine Empire (the eastern half of the Roman Empire), the empire lasted for 1500 years, until Byzantium fell to the Ottomans.
1
I understood, but I'm not sure most people realize how very long the "failed" Roman Empire lasted. Even if things had ended once and for all with the Western Empire, the empire still enjoyed an impressive longevity. The American Empire won't last so long.
1
The path to the imperial throne in Rome was almost through military success. This does not undermine Kay Jay's point that the good emperors were literate men who wrote poetry and were patrons of the arts; at the end, illiterate thugs who hacked and slashed their way to the throne (and rarely held it for long) became the norm.

Nero made the fictional King Joffrey look like Paddington the Bear.

Love how people accuse others of terrible deeds and thoughts without any basis in fact. Projecting in IMAX. I block people who insult or threaten. Just not worth my precious time.
1
I have a master's degree in history and kay jay is winning the argument. Clearly, he/she is a far more knowledgeable person on this particular subject.
1
Yeah, the Internet is ruining our manners and lowering our collective IQ. We're mean to each other because we can be. Good news: the Arctic ice is melting at an alarming rate, presaging the doom of humanity within a few generations. Ya gotta look on the bright side!
1
How many jobs did Abraham Lincoln create? Success as a businessman--which Trump doesn't have, given that he's declared bankruptcy four times--doesn't mean you're fit to be President. Logic fail!
1
My master's is in history. I have a BA in accounting and finance, summa cum laude. I ran a successful business and worked as an accountant for the Department of Defense. Business success doesn't translate to good governance. The government isn't supposed to turn a profit; in fact, governments create jobs through DEFICIT spending, when their balance sheets go into the red. This is Keynesian stimulus and is Economics 101.

I believe the real reason we keep so many people homeless and in dire poverty is to scare what's left of the middle class into being quiet: "Think things are bad at work, with no real raise for 40 years? Complain and you'll be out on the streets!" It's working, too. But at some point, the game will be up and people will lose their fear.
1
Why is Hillary doing this? Because she wants to "rehabilitate" herself--THIS TIME FOR SURE YOU'LL LIKE ME AND FIND ME RELATABLE!!!--for 2020. Yep, she's gonna run. God save us.
1
The Sister asks a question and gets a windy speech from the Ayn Rand fanboi. "The status quo isn't working" because our tax and trade policies favor a shocking redistribution of wealth towards the rich, period. Ryan is the "brains" of the GOP? What a sad joke.
1
Only reform that will work: all members of Congress are required to invest ONLY in indexed funds (passive investing, in which "insider knowledge" bears no weight). Anything other than that is bullshit.
1
Democratic strategy for 2016: Trump is an awful person, he's racist and divisive. Democratic strategy for 2020: Trump is an awful person, he's racist and divisive. The Democrats need to advocate better policies. Personal attacks on Trump only make him stronger.

The people in Antifa don't really care about their cause. I know some of them from my days in Oakland and they're just interested in mayhem. They'll just as easily switch to the Nazi side because they have no real principles.
