  1. Applebees is what we Americans call "casual dining". It's budget friendly but not fancy. If you're a gold digger on a foodie call, then yeah, you'd throw a fit if a dude took you to Applebee's.

  2. Sorry for the long story. It has a happy ending, but feel free to skip it. My wife of 15 years left me for some guy she'd met a few months before AFTER I got laid off (no fault of my own) from my job. I went through the grind of applying for jobs and going on interviews, but it didn't matter to her. I hung up on her. I retired early and am living in comfort. She's still working and living in a rented room after she divorced husband #2 (he was "toxic") and husband #3 (he was "abusive"). She admitted to my sister that she made the worst mistake of her life leaving me, but that I was "abusive" for not giving her a second chance. My mom snorted and said "She made her bed, now she can sleep in it." Current girlfriend: A woman 25 years younger than me who's a high-earning physician, a Vietnamese immigrant who is very feminine and thinks the world of me.
