  1. I retired several years earlier and left California. The vast potential of that state, which should have the brightest future of any state in the union, has been squandered by the oligarchs who run it. The five families (as I call them) who control California's politics (nobody gets to be governor without them) have finally killed the goose that laid the golden egg. The only way California can revive itself is to free its political system of families like the Gettys, but Californians are so complacent and ignorant that's not likely to ever happen.

  2. I lived in California for 22 years. I warn people NOT to go there. There's no law and order and no one is safe.
