  1. I bought three houses in the late 1980s/early 1990s. Perfect credit score, 20% down, never less than 8% interest on a 30 year mortgage. We've gotten so addicted to free money that we forget that this is NOT normal--8% interest on a 30 year mortgage is NORMAL and that's where the Fed should try to keep it. Keeping mortgage rates at 2% or 3% is NOT sustainable long-term and we're now seeing that plain as day.
