  1. The reason the cops and prosecutors don't feel they should have to be held accountable is because they rarely are. Their sense of being above reproach didn't appear out of thin air. It's something a worshipful, complacent public and cowardly politicians gave them. The police are supposed to be public servants, but they act like they're our bosses. We're to blame for that. We need to take our power back from them and make them work for us.

  4.  @AstridN4  True, but how did they get that way? They're not stupid: they see that the public defers to them and protects them from answering to us. We're to blame, and we're the ones who need to fix this.

  5.  @justin-2473  They we change that by passing a federal police certification and licensing law that establishes, among other things, CIVILIAN oversight boards for ALL police AND a legal duty to protect citizens' lives. The police have proven they cannot govern themselves. Nor should we expect them to. It's our job. We're their bosses.

  10. They're not making it worse in the long run for themselves. All they have to do is wait and public attention will dissipate. The parents of the kids are poor farm workers; nobody cares about them. They have no voice. If these were rich white kids, maybe, just maybe, you'd see some action, but for the children of poor Hispanics? Not a prayer.

  12.  @joer9323  1. You have to be 25 to run for Congress. 2. Neurological studies show that people's brain chemistry is in flux (hormones, etc) until about the age of 25. Impulse control goes WAY up after 25. That's why soldiers who experienced combat before they turned 25 have much higher rates of PTSD than soldiers who first experienced combat after the age of 25.
