The reason you've never seen a coverup like this before is because it involves cops. Cops are always protected from accountability, aside from a few sacrificial lambs. There were 367 cops who stood by while children were murdered. Facing up to this is facing up to cop culture, which emphasizes officer safety over citizens' lives (and the Supreme Court backs them up on that). You seriously think anyone in this country--especially TEXAS?--is going to face the fact that what caused those cops to hang back while kids were slaughtered is their training and culture? And that training and culture is everywhere in this country? There will be no accountability, no acknowledgement of the truth, and no peace for that community. Or for any of us. The police have broken the trust we citizens placed in them again and again. They won't fix it. We have to. If we don't, this will happen again.

Shanna, it wasn't just the Uvalde cops. There were 367 cops there that day from the Border Patrol, DPS (Texas Rangers), and the local police. This isn't just an incompetent small town police force--it's the culture of policing, which claims officers' lives are more important than citizens' lives. Until we change that, this tragedy means nothing.

I made that same point, Brian. That's the truth no official wants to deal with but that's the heart of the problem.

There were 367 cops there that day from Border Patrol and Texas Rangers, too. Only 30 were from Uvalde. Should they all be fired? And replaced with who? More of the same, operating in the same "officer safety first" culture? Then you've changed nothing.
