  1. Russia recently inflicted massive damage against a defenseless Ukraine. Zelensky panicked and hid in a bunker, ranting and raving. Putin could've done this a long time ago, but he wanted to go easy in the hopes that the US and the EU would see reason and negotiate a settlement. Now that the gloves are off, Putin is going to rain hell onto the poor Ukrainians. Weapons manufacturers are getting rich off the suffering of the Ukrainians (as is their corrupt president and his cronies, who are embezzling billions in aid into offshore accounts). The US and the EU could've avoided this by declaring Ukraine would always be a neutral country, admitted into neither NATO nor the EU. Instead, the choices now are: (1) Continue the war, which will bring great suffering to the Ukrainians and economic devastation to the EU; (2) Admit defeat and negotiate a settlement. Putin will now get more than he would've settled for last year. Putin is the big winner in all of this: the US, NATO, and the EU overplayed their hand.
