  1. I have to disagree with Sean that Oakland wasn't always terrible. I lived in downtown Oakland for five years, 2011-2016. Literally within sight of police HQ. Was menaced and even shot at twice in those years. And that was BEFORE the BLM riots. There's a certain demographic of Oakland residents who are sociopathic predators. That demographic is like a plague of locusts: unchecked, they will destroy everything around them. But the voters of Oakland still refuse to elect the mayor and city council who will deal with these problems. I don't see a way out for Oakland.
