  1. This generation of black folk have revived racism because without it, they don't have an excuse for their failure to advance in society. This isn't going to go the way they think it will, because those fires had died down to smoldering embers. Poking them isn't going to be good. For any of us. When I was young, I--with my very blonde hair and white skin--almost got shot by an old white man when I took a shortcut across his yard after dark. He was terrified. Was he racist against white people? No, just a scared old man and I was a thoughtless teen who didn't realize how the homeowner might perceive my actions. Old people living alone often live in fear. It's sad and I hope Ralph Yarl makes a full recovery, but I don't think Mr. Lester acted unreasonably under the circumstances.
