Questions we need answered: 1. How many cops does the LAPD need to make the city safe? Is it the 2020 numbers? Higher? Lower? 2. Why are cops allowed to retire after only 20 years on the job? You can become a cop at 21 and retire at 41 at 50% pay. That's encouraging people at the peak of their careers to bail into private industry. 3. LAPD as an institution has had and continues to have massive problems with cowboy cops. I was homeless in LA for nearly a year and got beat up by cops because they were bored--I wasn't breaking any laws. Why are so many LAPD cops like that? Do they have a culture of brutality? If so, how do you end it? LAPD cops once blew up an entire neighborhood when trying to dispose of illegal fireworks and handled a hostage situation at a Trader Joes store by shooting the hostages (to be fair, LAPD didn't deliberately shoot the hostages, they just fired into the store and hit whatever was in there, which happened to be a bunch of innocent people). LAPD are also one of the major traffickers of human beings, guns, and narcotics in LA County, and while Chief Moore isn't blind to the problem, he's powerless to govern his own force. The police unions run LAPD and the LAPD gets whatever it wants from the City of Los Angeles.
