Oakland was bad when I lived there 2011-2016. I have friends who still live there and they tell me it's several levels of Hell below what it was eight years ago.

I lived in Oakland. There are some VERY dangerous thugs roaming the streets who are straight-up psychopaths. The Oakland PD is thoroughly demoralized at this point and turn a blind eye to violent crime even on their own doorstep. I lived two blocks away from the "cop shop" (police HQ) and police officers reporting for duty walked past a mugging in progress and did nothing. I was nearly shot twice as a bystander just minding my own business--again, just a few blocks from police HQ. In the second shooting, the cops didn't show up at the 12th Street BART station (look on Google Maps to see how far it is from police HQ) until 45 minutes AFTER the two groups of thugs exchanging gunfire had fled the scene. I ended up with a scalp laceration from a piece of stucco that a bullet had knocked off--that's how close I was to getting my skull ventilated. I got another job and moved the hell out of Oakland within a few months of that last near-death event, and I am never going back. The liberal elites who live up in Oakland's hills--including former governor Jerry Brown--don't have to suffer the consequences of their woke policies. Sean doesn't understand how broken the city's politics and police are. We once had four chiefs of police in Oakland in nine months--each one had to resign because of a scandal.

@tonyg490 If Oakland thugs tried their psychopath routine in the small town in Kansas where I now live, they'd get ventilated by some good ole boys and the cops' only job would be to provide the body bags. And yeah, I used to live in Oakland's downtown area, Ninth Street and Jefferson, so I know what I'm talking about.
