  1. I taught in a school district that hired an openly gay superintendent. Within two years, he'd fired the entire cabinet (top administration) and half the principals in the district, and replaced every single one with a gay person. It became well-known that being gay made for promotions and gave new teacher applicants a leg up in the hiring process. The superintendent also created several highly paid, zero work positions staffed by (you guessed it) openly gay men and women. The transformation of the district was stunning and ruthless. Maybe the superintendent just wanted the best people for the job and they happened to be gay? Since gay people are 2%-3% of the population and 100% of the central administration of the district and 50% of the site administration is gay, that doesn't appear too likely.
