  1. There's some degree of range extension because tankers are big juicy targets that cannot go very far or else they leave the protection of the carrier group. With these they can go further with less risk.

  3.  @nataliesmylove7488  Supertankers are vulnerable targets and other countries are deploying/developing air to air missiles that are not meant to engage fighters but instead bring down tankers/AWACS aircraft from long range.

  4. The federal budget is what? 4.5 trillion? Defense is 0.6-0.7 trillion. There's plenty of money to go around.
