You don't see smoke on missiles. Missiles leave a smoke trail when launched, and depending on the size the motor burns from 8 seconds to maybe half a minute. The rockets that fire for several minutes are meant for space flight. They remain unpowered and trade velocity for altitude. Once they reach the apex, they start diving down. This leaves no trail. One of the reasons V2 bombs were feared more than V1s was because V1s were essentially cruise missiles and the pulse jet engine buzzed so people knew they were coming. The V2s fell straight down from the sky at supersonic speeds, without warning.

And the 3:1 offensive advantage is localized. It doesn't matter if there's a million men in the frontline, if I pick a section with 10,000 enemies and I send 30,000 I am respecting the rule of thumb even though I may have less manpower in total.

@locybapsi174 There is no similarity with Kosovo. Serbs were comitting genocide and got bombed until they accepted a peace deal and international peacekeepers. Then years later Kosovo declared independence. Another big difference is that Kosovars are an ethnic group, the so-called republics in Ukraine were not started by a true ethnic movement but by Russian nationals with no connection to the land like Igor Girkin (FSB agent).

@billmoretz8718 Most military equipment gas some degree of EMP shielding.
29
@harrybriscoe7948 The problem isn't how cold it gets, it's how bad winter conditions are in a frontline. Russian troops suffered frostbite in Ukraine in the early days. Russia might be colder. But bad/missing winter gear doesn't protect you like your heated home and winter clothing in civilian life.
16
@dreamadventure8220 This was also said about Kharkiv and Kherson. Maybe stop saying it if you're pro-Russia. You might be jinxing it.
14
@Baz.007 An air drop will get shot down by anti air systems. Airlift by helicopter would have to be done into Chornovaikava in the outskirts of Kherson - that airfield has been struck about 30 times so far and Russian equipment keeps getting destroyed there as a result.

Not just Bakhmut but Adiivka and the famous Vuhledar offensives. Bakhmut used up a lot of Wagner which were not mobilized men. Vulhedar used up units that required reconstitition with mobilized men.
7
@valyshknee4203 the dragon's teeth which are rotting and have voids to make them cheaper? Not even buried into the ground?
6
It's true. They're using Iranian drones and S-300s to compensate. If you use bows and arrows, that means you're running out of bullets.
5
I talked to someone in Ukraine who fought in the early days as part of the defense militia. He's not mobilized because the AFU wants to have more professional soldiers rather than more conscripts.
5
Tochka-Us have a 50% chance of missing by over 100 meters. Those impacts hit precisely where the munitions storage spots where.
5
@Eagles-Everywhere28 Glad to help!
4
Nice cope.
4
@presleymeck You're purposefully confusing Kherson city with the oblast.
4
The offensive would then crash against a stronger Russian military. The bombed out city is protecting other cities from suffering the same fate. The months of fighting with defensive advantage meant the offensive will cut through a much weaker Russian army.
4
@JayJay5244 It's self explanatory. Opposition forces are driven out, turned to casualties or surrender.
4
Last year IS also called for more terror in Israel. More like, ISIS has always been in the background, now a large number of angry people due to the Gaza situation can be radicalized.
4
They don't even control 2 of the oblasts they claimed to have annexed.
4
Putin says a lot of things. Start losing, make up new win conditions.
4
I still remember hearing this after Severodonetsk.
3
For about 6 months.
3
@valyshknee4203 Some Ukrainians in a BMP filmed themselves drive into a dragon's teeth full speed, the vehicle jumped over it. The tank will not roll over. Either way, artillery shelling, using the tank's own gun, and even bulldozer blades on the front of the tank will deal with such cost-cutting obstacles.

@tahoecamper5078 "tahoe camper 5078" is definitely an Ukrainian and not a Tucker-watching American shilling for the third rome.
3
And yet recent reports indicate Russia is sending in the reserves. Must be tiring to hold the wheel, because the surrounding force is spent.
3
@galacticverse7694 What's the point of capturing Bakhmut instead of just encircling it? Oh wait, they tried that.
3
Russian MoD lol

@@milannikioo916Kharkiv was defended, Ukraine punched the thin front line and started slaughtering the rear echelons. Several towns were intended to stabilize the lines, UA surrounded them, and shelled the escape routes to massacre retreating Russians.
2
Russia is attacking...
2
Just in time for the Kerch bridge reopening.

1. Every time Russia comes out with the General McF*cking Turbinator or some kind of scary name. In Syria the Russians were curbstomping a foe multiple times their inferior, and in fact Syria is part of the reason Russia thought they had a good military when they don't. Russia isn't moving slow, they're throwing meat at defensive positions. It's not some kind of careful tactical movement, it's an atrocity against mankind. 2. Russia started resorting to S-300s in ground attack mode and Iranian drones. This proves correct the claim that they are running out of missiles. If they weren't, they'd use their best missiles only.
2
Remember when Fox threw a fit after seeing an ISIS flag in a pride parade?
2
They didn't need to stage anything to move them to Belarus. Also, Wagner killed Russian pilots...
2
If Ukraine can't even hold Severodonetsk, how will they retake Kharkiv and Kherson? Oh wait...
2
@Juho221 Kaliningrad's existence is in itself colonialism but it's not worth discussing it.
2
Not really. Russia's consolidation efforts are hindered by the fact that all their occupied territory is unsafe for military occupation. Every other day either an HQ or barracks was hit. When your officers keep dying, and soldiers are killed in the beds they sleep in, there's not much hope.
2
The Donbas militia was depleted by last summer. They're now using mobilized Russian men to staff the militia.
2
Anyone can do it. There's rifles and grenades everywhere thanks to war bringbacks.
2
Numbers from Russian MoD lol
2
False, it's Russian sources recycling old footage.
2
Refinery capacity was the issue last time I checked.
2
@locybapsi174 If you had followed news, you'd have understood that Ukrainian officials themselves said that you wouldn't notice the counteroffensive as it was ongoing. All this time they were probing the lines, and we first heard of the breakthrough from the Russian side. But the offensive had been ongoing for a long time until it spilled over.
2
@casbot71 They were greeted as liberators, I remember seeing the crowds cheering when the Saddam statue got toppled. It was the Ba'ath party and Iran-lead militias that decided that prolonging the war was a good idea.
2
@prplt But even those who dodge the conscription get called. You'd have to actually leave the country until the age limit lapses, because those who ask for deferment in case of health/education also are elegible for mobilization.
2
There's a difference between fighting a battle and credible advance thrusts.
2
@caydcrow5161 to reclaim land they need offensive capabilities
2
That makes no sense. First, they would have trouble towing back a tank during active combat. They're having trouble towing their own damaged tanks. Second, things get lost in wars. Tanks were lost in Kherson. But the Russians fled with the tail between their legs. Sure, they destroyed a tank, but the collective number of tanks made them run. They're going to run empty handed back to Moscow and say the tanks are obsolete? Then they admit defeat versus obsolete tanks. Humiliating.
2
They're not "buying time" tools. They're "punch through the line and start wrecking the rear" tools. Think Kharkiv.
2
Which is why he's scared of a Russian loss, he doesn't want to be traded as part of a peace deal.
2
Jesus at least have some sense of self-preservation. Do you know what's out there in Ukraine? The enemy soldiers already gained experience taking out your best soldiers. You think that with two weeks training and a rusty AK they won't hesitate to get the drop on you before you even realize they're coming? You will not find anything worth dying for by going to Ukraine. Please preserve your life.
