The offensive would then crash against a stronger Russian military. The bombed out city is protecting other cities from suffering the same fate. The months of fighting with defensive advantage meant the offensive will cut through a much weaker Russian army.

@galacticverse7694 What's the point of capturing Bakhmut instead of just encircling it? Oh wait, they tried that.

If Ukraine can't even hold Severodonetsk, how will they retake Kharkiv and Kherson? Oh wait...

@galacticverse7694 Bakhmut holds meaning that other cities are spared from the fighting. Russia burned through their offensive potential.

@speedyv6247 Wagner is backed by the VDV. Remember when Wagner claimed to have captured Soledar and the Russian MoD said that was a lie? It's because the battered VDV has to lose men saving Wagner from doom.

@twilightstar9973 Right. Kharkiv wasn't a battle, it was a massacre. The photos of the roads filled with disembodied limbs and torsos split open due to Ukrainian shelling of roads used for retreat pretty much beat all the gore you could find in 2000s internet. Kherson was just smart. Why fight, when your enemy can just give you what you want? Read Sun Tzu. The greatest victory is when you win without even fighting. Russia concentrated their forces elsewhere lol like in Vuhledar, where they got massacred as well. Bakhmut's strategic importance required Kharkiv oblast. There was an intent to use a northern and southern axis to pincer around Ukrainian defenses in the Donbas. The retreat from Kharkiv reduced the need for Bakhmut. Stomping ground? If Bakhmut took 9 months, Sloviansk and Kramatorsk will take two years.

Tell youtube to pay the content creators. You're paying youtube, but they run the hosting. The content creators have to make a living. Back in the good old days before demonetization and the adpocalypses creators didn't need to do as many ads and promos. Just saying. It's not the creator's fault you're paying money to youtube.

@ErikGeurts It doesn't matter that it's not because of you. They're underpaid and need outside income. You paid for youtube premium, so youtube won't show you ads. It doesn't matter to them that you've paid for youtube. I think you misunderstood the deal. Youtube never claimed that they'd protect you from creators inserting their own ads, if you don't like it take it up with them for having mislead you.

@ErikGeurts I actually doubt it. Then why are creators not punished? Google controls the platform.

Two more weeks, Zisters!

Progress at the cost of depleting the force is not the winning move. Remember Severodonetsk? A victory like that bled Russia so hard they called an operational pause.

@iitzkryy9599 Yes. But Kharkiv and Kherson aren't. Ukraine traded a city (or two if you want to count Lysychansk) to liberate the district around Kharkiv city (which also removed one of the pincers threatening to encircle Donbas) and the north bank of Kherson. While you touch yourself thinking about a single city, Ukraine will recover an oblast.

@speedyv6247 Yeah, it happened. Go back to the announcements being made at the time.

@galacticverse7694 Being surrounded by three sides, but the encirclement failed when Ukraine reinforced the flanks. That means that Russia has to advance through the town, which is extremely costly for the attacker.

And Ukrainians will remain static for the hour or two that takes to find a position and tell a jet to take off?
