  1. People were used to 7.62x39 making through and through holes. You either died in combat or had a high chance of healing. With 5.45 the wounded who survived the fight suffered enough internal damage to die later. Mind that in the Libyan civil war when 5.56 weapons and M855 arrived into the scene, people also started spreading the rumor that the green tip meant poison because they were used to 7.62x39 M43 equivalents.

  6. I don't even know what that means. The lead does whatever you want, when the dies apply force to form the bullet, the lead acts like toothpaste. It just fills the void. Undersize? Pressing it makes it bulge out and get wider. Oversize? Pressing the lead will thin it out. Yugo M67 and 7.62x39 8m3 also feature voids so it's just a question of not inserting enough lead volume to fill it. It's by design, not accident.

  7. Twist rate is irrelevant. You'd need a twist rate so tight it would be threading rather than rifling to make it stable in tissue. Whenever it goes into tissue, it's already massively unstable.

  10.  @theiviachine  That's level IIIA. These are the rifle-rated FRAS plates. From what I gathered it's not true level III because it's not rated for M80 ball, but it's rated against SS109 5.56 and 7.62x39. If the video gave you the impression that a IIIA vest would protect you from 7n6, that's because the plate rating was not clear at all. A person wearing pistol soft body armor will not be protected from 7n6. You need a rifle rated plate to stop 7n6.

  11. 5.56 doesn't need 2500 fps to yaw, it needs it to rupture the jacket. The biggest problem with 5.56 was M855 which is inherently inconsistent. Mk 262 also features an empty bullet nose, and M855A1 was designed for consistent yaw with a steel tip for the best of both worlds.

  13.  @storytimedavidcollins2897  First of all, that's wrong. The original design was 1/14 because that was the .224" barrel blank availability at the time. That was the barely stable twist rate. With the economies of scale, it was no longer necessary to depend on commercial availability and 1/12 barrels were manufactured to fully stabilize 55gr. One in twelve is not the "barely stable" twist rate. There's no verifiable evidence that 1/12 twist rates deal more damage, and it wouldn't make sense because upon entering tissue, no bullet is stable. The stability is completely out of the window and there's no "more" or "less" stable. It's critically unstable due to tissue being a thousand times denser than air.

  15. No, pistol ammo AP bans are based on material rather than performance. There's non-AP 9mm which penetrates 3A armor because it's not made of banned materials.

  17.  @jlucmonag5712  Grads are manually aimed, take time to set up, they rock like a boat when firing so the rockets land wherever, and take 20 minutes to reload. Not to mention that the HIMARS has double the range. In the time it takes to stop a BM-21 and start the process to aim it at the intended target, an HIMARS can just drive to a position, stop, fire, and move out. The rocket pods also take 5 minutes to reload. Given an infinite supply of rockets, a single HIMARS could destroy an infinite amount of Grads by simply staying out of range, firing, and moving. It would only have to stop due to maintenance.

  19. The corrosive salts are water soluble. Hose it down, dunk it on a plastic tub, fire up your hexamine tablets and drip a canteen cup of hot water, whatever. Then clean as you'd clean a regular rifle.

  21. The other way around. There's a ton of 3-5 min "infomercial" videos that don't gain traction. The banter and characters keep viewers engaged, which in turn gets the video promoted by the algorithm while the truncated information videos are only watched by people who searched for them.

  22. It's not about testing. Pistol rounds cannot have steel cores. AK pistols and people having big mouths lead to it becoming pistol ammo.

  23.  @GamePath  Okay. People used the legal definition of "pistol" to have "AK pistols", now you can't come around and tell the government "no fair!". It gets fired out of pistols, that gave the government the opening to consider it pistol ammo. The time to fight it is long gone, and fortunately when it was about to happen to M855 people complained enough to stop it. It's too late to complain now.

  25. Non-fragmenting 5.56 also does this, in fact Brass Fetcher used to have a video of M856 tracer and it damn near tore the block in half as it yawed. Must be privated, last I checked. I don't know the final design but all XM5 candidates had to use a specific 6.8 projectile independent of what cartridge they chose and it years ago the rumor was that it had to be EPR construction. The 7.62x51 EPR bullet (the one on M80A1) is such a good performer it can be loaded on a 300 BLK case and still fragment at 1700 fps. The Spear has nothing to learn from 7n6 because Uncle Sam designed something even better a decade ago.

  26.  @Manco65  the 1/14 twist was because at the time nobody made .224 bullets for military use, so the barrel blanks were all rifled to stabilize 40-45gr bullets, 50gr max. The military did a 55gr which stabilized, but in arctic conditions the colder air made the bullet unstable. This means keyholing. The bullet is going sideways. You can't even hit what you're aiming at because it just does random flips in the air. Since the military was going to adopt it, it made sense to have factory produced 1/12 barrels. When the stories of 5.56 wounds started circulating, people assumed incorrectly that bullets were hitting bodies sideways and attributed it to 1/14 not understanding that with the bullets flying sideways, they wouldn't have hit anyone except by accident.
