  2. Helmets work well, though. There's documented occurrences of helmets not even rated to stop rifle rounds protect the wearer from a rifle round. People really overstate the energy from pistol rounds. The energy of a 9mm is essentially a moderately trained boxer's punch. Even .44 Mag doesn't beat Rocky Marciano's 950 ft lbf punch. Plus at the point where the energy would really cause damage the helmet itself is dislodged and the straps tensioned, which is going to diminish the actual head or spine injury. There's a reason hard helmets are a thing in construction sites - they work.
