  1. There's dual stack 1911s. It's not that 45 is too wide, it's that the 1911 has a metal frame around the mag and then requires plastic or wood grips around the metal which makes it very thick. 2011-style raceguns work around that by having a frame without a grip/magwell, and you bolt a separate grip/magwell piece to the frame. Instead of having to wrap your hand around a grip/magwell/magazine/magwell/grip combo you only have grip/magazine/grip.
