@Jim C. Okay, how much pollution and waste of resources is generated by mining coal and drilling for oil? Doesn't coal mining pull radioactive ore from the Earth's depths as well?

@Jim C. I didn't put any words on your mouth, I compared nuclear to other forms of energy we need to mine. "Geothermal and wind power are the cleanest forms" - for that comment I had to look up how geothermal is gonna deal with the problems created by fracking and I'm not totally convinced. Wind power seems to have the problem of blades whacking birds so the environmental concerns go beyond the mining for the raw materials. I'm not remembering where I read this but apparently something happened in Spain because a wind farm caused a climate change in another area since the wind farm depleted the energy from air currents that used to end up in the area affected. There's no free lunch, it seems.

@Angela-jc8bk there's reactor designs that render themselves safe even in the event of pump failure. Instead of the heat destroying the reactor shielding and releasing radioactive steam into the wind, a sacrificial plug is melted through and the contents of the reactor fall into a pool that neutralizes the reaction.

I'll jump on the solar bandwagon once it surpasses 50% efficiency. If the technology improves in the next 10 years I can't wait to see all the people lining up to replace their obsolete pannels before the installation even paid for itself.
