+Chris Weidner it would be helpful if you named the country because your point kinda loses its edge if the country receives a ton of medical aid from the developed countries, or if the country is under a military dictatorship or something. I don't think losing freedoms is a good price for cheap drugs.

+bcoleman71 "buying the patent to a particular drug that was being sold for a few dollars per dose and Jack the live up to $1000 per dose" if you're talking about Martin Shkreli he bought the manufacturing license for a BRAND NAME DRUG with an EXPIRED PATENT. Just a few months later Imprimis Pharmaceuticals announced they would be selling a new and improved version of the drug for 1 dollar a pill.

+Swine Brothers you do realize that here in Europe many people working in the medical field are overworked and underpaid, right? Particularly nurses, the system has been screwing over nurses for years. In my city an ER is going to close soon because all the doctors managing the ER quit. They announced that they were forced to take drastic measures because they don't have the resources and manpower to keep going. It's not slavery because the doctors and nurses truly want to help patients so they consent to working in terrible conditions for longer than anyone working in another field. If the government saw everyone quitting en-masse how would they be able to give anyone the "right" to healthcare? The only way to preserve that "right" is force.

+Tim Laning "free" you mean the price you just mentioned plus the money stolen from people's paychecks.
2
+surrealnumber if you don't have the resources nor the manpower it's more detrimental to public health to continue to operate a ER in improper conditions than have the government close it down and start redirecting people into other ER centers.

Paul Krugman also has a PhD in economics and he has said some retarded shit.

If you get disabled and require years of surgery and physical therapy anywhere in the world you're screwed for life. You'll lose everything and even government-subsidized bills will be too high for the welfare/disability checks. I'm European and this happens here. You may claim societies share these burdens but they don't. They sweep you under the rug.
2
That is so wrong? Show me any person who becomes disabled and unable to work and without life savings/charity/family who has managed to maintain a "normal" life on governmental guaranteed income alone. Becoming disabled and having no safety net will RUIN your life. As for my country, it is Portugal and yes there is national healthcare.

Oh that didn't come across well through text, sorry. The problem is, the cost of doing that would probably mean several paychecks worth per person if they lived in individual housing. We actually have a program that exists since the time we still had a monarchy in which all lotteries and gambling operations are taxed to fund a state-run charity. You just don't live a "normal" life. It's more like living in a retirement home. This is obviously a last resort and most people would rather just live with relatives and maybe help by getting a job that can be done from home. My grandfather had to live his last years bedridden but in his own house and my grandmother could fortunately afford to care for him. But I witnessed first hand that even when the government is supposed to help, the costs just pile up.

It's complicated. We have not received a lot of refugees or economic migrants. So although there are some problems with immigration (lack of housing and schemes involving legal-immigration work visas) my city would actually be an argument for multiculturalism working - our mayor has Indian ancestry but isn't passing anti-white measures, nobody is trying to implement Sharia law, no No-Go Zones, etc. The average person is only exposed to our media that spreads an "anti-populist" rhetoric. It's insane because around here the left was always against the European Union and globalism, but now we're pretending that only right-wing xenophobes think like that. We won't have a Trump because although most people hate the establishment, they do not see it necessary to elect an anti-establishment figure as things are getting better, not worse.

I accurately defined socialism to a person defending the socialist Scandinavia meme. I was told I was wrong and to google it. I posted the google definition of socialism. Apparently I was still wrong because I had said governmental control rather than community control like google states. Even though the "community control" is established by the communist party (aka government) and the "community" of Scandinavia did not abolish private property. HMMMMMMM

"If people don’t want to wait and have the money to get the operation elsewhere. Let them." - do they get a refund for all the taxes they paid into healthcare after choosing that option? Because paying into healthcare, not being able to get service in a timely manner, and then paying a second time is fucking bullshit.

But that's the problem of socialized healthcare that minds the waste of taxpayer money - "death panels". The person, or panel, who makes the decision to let someone die because the treatment won't save them is exactly what most right-wingers criticize about socialized healthcare: the resources have to be rationed. And sometimes doctors make mistakes which makes such a solution a PR nightmare.

+Jared Bourgeois generic drugs are only sold after patents expire. In the US 88% of prescriptions are for generics. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generic_drug#cite_note-gphaonline_2011-9)

I am from Europe... You don't want our system. Oh yeah a study funded by the Koch brothers, the "George Soros of the left". The study definitely isn't biased towards the profit of healthcare corporations, then.

Thank you very much, best wishes.

+Andre De Angelis you do realize that if you have a massive health problem in any other country and you can't work you'll go bankrupt as well, right? Not all kinds of treatment are free, we have this thing called "comparticipation" aka the things cost money, but the government agrees to pay for it and the percentage can change. We had an issue years ago where people with melanoma required a form of treatment that had 0% comparticipation because it was skin beauty related. Here in Portugal people died of colon cancer because they couldn't even get a colonoscopy. The government promised more slots so that people could schedule more appointments but it doesn't change the fact that the system is slow enough to kill people. "Bullshit is when a noob job is prioritised over a life saving operation because the recipient of the boob job can pay to jump the queue" --- I seriously doubt that the same doctors at the same clinics are performing two very different types of surgery. "Do rich people who can afford private security firms get a refund for the taxes they pay to fund the police department?" --- that doesn't make any sense because 1) private security cannot perform the duties of sworn officers and 2) the police has no duty to protect meaning that even if they can't get to you in time to prevent a crime you're not entitled to compensation. If you write "syke this universal healthcare bill isn't actually universal because it doesn't guarantee you anything and you should fucking die in a ditch and we won't be held liable for our delays lol" I will wholeheartedly support that bill because it will admit that it won't solve the problem just like the courts determined that the police doesn't have to protect you. Actually tell the people you're selling false hopes and dreams that they're signing up for.
