  3. Most firearms-related components are not patented or expired already. Most pistols for example use a Browning-style tilting barrel action which is close to 100 years old. The bolt on the AR15 (which the patent expired a long time ago) was heavily influenced by the M1941 Johnson rifle.

  4. They're 380, 22 actually has higher pressure due to smaller diameter. You're only limited by your imagination. Look up electrochemical machining. You can 3D print a mandrel, wrap it in copper wire and run salt water to "machine" the rifle and chamber on a steel tube. Print the gun but modify the file to accept your steel barrel (learning CAD isn't difficult).

You don't need to understand science to know that you take that explosive, pack it in a container and surround it with shrapnel. The Boston bombers put fucking fireworks inside a pressure cooker detonated by a gutted RC car. That's not science. It's basic McGyverism.
