kg2679 You mean when 1950s reactor designs survived the tsunami despite an insufficient seawall, had their cooling shut down as standard operational procedure, couldn't restart and then for whatever reason the diesel generators and switchboards were placed at a basement which flooded? Meaning that the disaster was entirely avertable had the seawall been built higher or the backup systems placed uphill?

@DONNALANDS The fish aren't dying and they are safe for consumption. Bananas are more radioactive.

@DONNALANDS Right on cue, you mean like your lunacy parroted from Natural World News dot something weird because they're too shady to even get a dot com domain? You make claims, then refuse to back them up because you're not anyone's secretary. Sure. What you mean is that they're false, and you know all you got are links to glorified blogs posing as science journals. Burden of proof. If you're unwilling to carry it, you're just a dirty liar.

Less people died in those disasters than in the Banquiao Dam failure.

It's clean. Coal plants release more radiation than nuclear ones.

Making California an uninhabitable wasteland is not the downside you think it is.

@DONNALANDS Chernobyl mutations are a pop culture thing. And it's estimated that only 4,000 out of the 5 million people living in the area died of cancers resulting from the disaster.

@DONNALANDS "there are better ways to boil water" - Do you have a clean one? Because apparently even using the Sun to boil water requires gas plants to start burning fossil fuel whenever the salt gets dangerously cold.

@DONNALANDS How do you power the microwave? Thermal energy is just nuclear with extra steps. Why do you think the Earth's hot enough? Radioactive decay. Pumping a working fluid into the Earth's crust or a nuclear reactor is essentially the same thing. Iceland has actually found a correlation between geothermal and cancer but it's a single study so the science is not settled. What does silica have to do with anything? Your microwave CONSUMES energy, it doesn't generate it. What does salt water matter? A conductor doesn't generate energy, otherwise the electrical wire in your house would power your appliances, rather than the grid.

Sorry man I live a couple miles from the sea and there's days that are absolutely unbearable without AC. Especially at night, it's impossible to fall asleep with the heat. But we don't have to blast it all day long, that's for sure.

@rossn646 You're literally drinking and eating plenty of poisons as a consequence of modern life, but we generate just gazillions of watts off of nuclear power and two meltdowns are enough to make you scared. Oh no we lost a few hundred square kms over a century, meanwhile you lose thousands every year to mining, deforestation, etc.

@cethyhnc9305 Are you stupid? Coal comes from the depths of the Earth, burning it releases radioactive isotopes into the atmosphere. Meanwhile nuclear plants have to monitor their radiation leaks. You can doubt the facts all you want, but incredulity is not an argument. Not everything that disagrees with you is trash. Are you a child?

@cethyhnc9305 I didn't insult you. I asked a question. I am not wrong and you never told me I was wrong. You just acted incredulous. And I pointed out that you acting incredulous isn't an argument.
