  1. This was announced in 2015-2016 for MIL sales. The logic being that you'd get a compromise 5.56 weapon that would not require keeping both long 5.56 and short 9mm weapons on hand, just 5.56 all around.

  2. ​ @slowmo7500 They never went shorter than 10.3" because it was based on the shortest length that it was still possible to mount a KAC suppressor without hitting the bayonet lug on the gas block. Diemaco/Colt Canada made 10" barrels and installed front sight blocks without bayonet lugs to remove the interference.

  3. ​ @zack9912000 The main point is taming the muzzle blast. No need to slow anything down, it's not the speed that makes it loud - it's the heat and high pressure of expansion gas meeting the atmosphere. Cans allow some cooling and pressure reduction with no impact on muzzle velocity. Sometimes it increases velocity by a little bit.
