  1. Actually rifle rounds have no problem getting trough body armor. It's the ballistic plates that protect from rifles. Either way, back in WWII troops weren't issued body armor nor plates, at least in big numbers.

In the very open areas of Afghanistan it's not the place to use a caliber designed to be used at less than 300m.
