  1. This is common across the old guard leftists. The Portuguese communist party refused to say the word "war" for the first few months. And to this day they say they are for peace because the arms companies are profiting off the war. Not to protect Ukraine. Not because of what's just and moral. But because someone out there is profiting off the munitions Ukrainians fire in their defese. These are known as "tankies".

  3. Contrast that to Ana Kasparian's experience - one of the kindest people she met was her Trump-supporting neighbor. She didn't find out until a couple of years into their friendship. You only know the political opinions of those who broadcast them overty and guess what - people who tend to do that aren't typically nice people.

  8. Nah, there's a ton of "can't tell me nothing" types who back dictators because they think dictators agree with them or they secretly would like to be dictators. A lot of people are even content with being part of the enforcers or intelligentsia as long as the dictatorship matches their values. Precisely because they can afford independent thought when the state would approve of what they think.
