Russia cut spending on other government servicesvto pay for the war. Oligarchs are forced to pitch in for the conflict, they can't just make off like bandits.

Russia actually invaded in 2014, they just pretended they were Donbas militia. The war has been going on for 8 years, just simmering.

The point isn't the tax on the 60 bucks. It's how these companies are used to evade sanctions. It's just 20% here, a million changing hands there... put several of these companies together and you have a neat money laundering operation.

@Plsub-tt8gm It's not independent, and shell companies are used to bust sanctions.

The issue is that Activision didn't have to give money back to the US military. They created a game they wanted to make, and even made a US general a villain.

Don't let me discourage you from playing, but it's not just some game from years ago. The connections are there. If you still want to play don't feel guilty about it, but I think it's legitimate to raise the issue.

I could sense those trailers years ago were 100% "bullshots". Thanks.

Putin said the collapse of the union was the greatest tragedy of the 20th century. Their tanks still fly Soviet banners into battle.

The problem is that they'll use the Cypriot accounts to handle the money.

The difference is, buying the games did not somehow allow the US to continue the wars.

@SUMOWRIGLEYBEATS Because the investors are Russian oligarchs (aka the informal government), because the company is sanctions busting by having access to western banking (Russia is supposed to be cut off). Of course that they're not reliant on a videogame. But their sanctions busting is reliant on Russian companies pretending to be from Cyprus, Georgia, etc. The money is whatever can be laundered through companies with access to Western banking. Sell a million dollars worth of games, put 20 million through the Western accounts.

Russian investors pool money to finance game, devs get paid in Cyprus, investors use Cypriot banks to collect and evade sanctions.

@LardoAG If you invest in Company X and Company X is paid by Company Y, then the dividends of Company X go to you. Doesn't matter if Company Y doesn't like you and doesn't want to pay you - once the money goes to X, X has to pay back the investors. Games don't have publishers at the start a lot of times, especially with new studios. They require investor capital to start, make a game, and if the game is interesting a publisher picks it up.

The psyops have been going on since 2014. We only call it "Z" now because that was the IFF marker in vehicles that became te symbol of the war. But prior we just called people "vatniks".
