Say, a bullet on a victim matches the rifling on your gun - I cannot prove you shot the gun. A witness saw you enter the victim's house, heard a gunshot and a scream, saw you leave - it's not proof you fired the shot. But the circumstancial evidence proves your gun was used, and you were seen at the murder scene. That's circumstancial evidence. Fingerprints and other forensic evidence are circumstancial.
