chris dera That's false. For example, the homeless man who got shot from the back, John Crawford, the man who had a wrap around his hand, etc were all bad shoots. But if you're unarmed, you can still pose a danger. Look at what War Machine did to Christy Mack. If a person lashied like that on you, and a cop couldn't stop it before permanent brain damage occured, wouldn't you want the unarmed aggressor to be shot?

But he did go to court, where he was cleared of the charges. Remember that he did go to prison and probably had his finances ruined due to legal costs. He was also stalked by the media and shot at. The justice system punished him despite being cleared of everything, and he was found guilty in the court of public opinion. He already got punished for a crime we couldn't find him guilty of.

CGphotoOp Most cops are not gun nuts. The vast majority of cops doesn't fire their guns outside of mandatory range qualifications, often doesn't know state/local gun laws.

chris dera Again, wrong. When people made an attempt to make biometric guns a thing, conservatives said that the police should be forced to use them too. Why? Because the pissbabies in the police unions would come up with a million excuses to why biometric guns suck, faster than a NRA board member could think of a single one. Many conservatives also backed people who shot cops entering houses without announcing themselves, and protested the shooting of John Crawford for merely holding a BB gun in a store after an anti-gun asshole SWATed him.

DarthCipient The Monash University shooting happened after gun control. It's just never counted as a mass shooting because it didn't reach enough fatalities - but 7 people still got shot. Either way, same thing happened in New Zealand and they didn't follow suit with Australian levels of gun control. There's strong evidence that gun control did absolutely nothing in Australia. DarthCipient They are different countries, so of course frequencies will be different. The argument is, would gun control change those frequencies? We saw the supposed frequency change in Australia - but it was at the same time as New Zealand, which didn't pass gun control. And from another perspective, people resort to arson in Australia. If the argument was that the US is not Australia, yeah. If the argument is that gun control changes frequencies (we can't forget that US media glorifies these acts, which provokes copycats and thus mass shooters appear in "bursts" at a time) then it's a weak argument.

badpanda84 Being a garbage man is more dangerous than being a cop in the US. So don't come with that excuse that cops are paranoid. Also, name the last time Iceland had to fight Mexican cartels or gangs that exist because of the Mexican supply of drugs. You can't compare a country like the US to Iceland. The US literally borders a country where journalists, government officials and cops are either corrupt, or they get assassinated, and it's one of the main sources of profit for the people who cause that violence. Iceland is a freaking island.

By your logic, Canada should have as much violence as the US because it's even easier to smuggle guns into Canada than Mexico. But it doesn't. Clearly, your country has cultural, social and economical reasons to have less gun crime. Compare Toronto to LA or Chicago. Compare one of your states to Alabama or Tennessee. And gun suicides were dropping since the 80's, way before the buyback. And by the way, even back in 2005 gun ownership was higher than before Port Arthur in New South Wales. Today, the government officials are blaming America for a resurface of gun culture in Australia. Reduction of suicides predated and had nothing to do with gun control, and they kept dropping even after gun ownership resurfaced.
