Eastern fence Lizard If there's plenty of those guys around, shouldn't that be addressed before the bug hits? And since we're a year and a half into this BS, shouldn't weight loss have been promoted instead of staying at home and ordering UberEats? Plus if in 400 people of that age group, 200 are obese... that essentially means 199 in 200 obese people of that age group survive. It's not about "deserving". I don't deserve getting hit by a car. But if I make a choice to run back and forth across a highway at some point I'm going to get hit. If people are not willing to minimize their risks that doesn't mean they "deserve" anything bad, but do we deserve to be collectively punished as a society for their choices?

Eastern fence Lizard "The rich people who have done this to us have personal chefs and people to grocery shop for them" - This is a massive cope. If it took chefs and assistants to be healthy, then obesity rates would be 99%. Clearly, there's plenty of people who can cook and shop no matter the income level. Trump has been out of office for almost a year and you're still letting him live rent free in your head. There's so many out of shape rich people it actually debunks your argument. "almost no one succeeds long term" - Doesn't need to be long term, only until the coof is finally endemic and becomes the common cold. "Expecting this to change overnight and somehow have foreknowledge of the pandemic in order to address it before it hits is not at all reasonable." - We had foreknowledge. You people called us racist conspiracy theorists for saying something was happening in Wuhan. Either way, if a disease threatens you with death and you can't change overnight... again that seems like a personal problem. Why should I suffer? "Losing weight and keeping it off basically means changing everything about being an American" - No, it doesn't. "Do you really think people are going to just stop eating foods they have been eating all their lives, to stop playing addictive video games or binge watching Netflix?" - Excuses. You can do that and still not put on weight. It's called moderation. It's called not overeating. Listen to yourself. So if danger of lung cancer is looming, you're really going to argue you're not going to stop smoking because you've been doing it all your life?

Eastern fence Lizard "if it were really so simple why would we have a population where 2/3rds are overweight or obese?" - Because people are so stubborn they can't do simple things. "Few people know how to cook anymore" - There's literally books and youtube channels about it. Anyone can cook. "we don't teach it to our children in school" - I think it was Mark Twain that said to not let schooling get in the way of education. School can't teach everything. "they are bombarded with processed food advertisements all day long" - And telling kids about advertising and how it manipulates people is too hard? This is literally just excuses. "We don't as a society promote and value human health" - More people than ever are going to gyms. At least until they closed down.
