@lykos89 "You want to go to a different state with your friend's gun" - He worked in that city, he lived 20 minutes away from the state line. He "went to that state" in the same sense that he does that every day. "with your friend's gun to kill people" - He didn't go there to kill people. He spent the day helping the clean up.

@lykos89 "Arson is bad. Looting/stealing is bad. Murder is worse." - Murder is a premeditated unjustifiable homicide. You can't "premeditate" someone attacking you, and self-defense is a justifiable homicide. Arson is bad. Stealing is bad. Self-defense? Not a crime. "He went to Kenosha looking for trouble." - No, he went there to help clean up the damage and provide some first aid which is why you see him with the blue latex gloves. "He wanted to kill people. He is a piece of shit." - You see, you can't prove that. I'm going to throw you a bone. Even if Kyle wanted to kill people, then he did it in a way where you can't prove he did anything wrong. Now, I don't even think he wanted to kill people, because he spent the day helping around and things only became violent when the opposing side went after him. But even if you were right, you can't prove it and you can't put someone in prison over a gut feeling.

Nunya Bidness "legally possessed firearm to rob a bank and a security guard is chasing me ...can i shoot him and claim self defense?" - Kyle wasn't robbing a bank. You can't even argue about the scenario without making up your own alternative version of the facts. "Kyle Rittenhouse was committing both a STATE AND FEDERAL CRIME by possessing that firearm with not legally allowed to do so" - Bernie Goetz used an illegal firearm in self-defense in New York and he only served time for the illegal carry. He was found not guilty of the charges dealing with the homicide. "one could argue but for his illegal possession he would not have been rushed (by unarmed men mind you)" - If he was unarmed he would have been an even easier victim. You really think people pick on armed people more often than unarmed. Also, one of the men attacking him was armed with a Glock.
18
@lykos89 "No, he didn't have a right to be there." - Can you name this law that prohibited him from being there? "Just like anyone who came from outside the city to loot and commit property damage had no right to be there." - Disregarding the looting, can you actually name the law that said the protesters could not be there? "He wouldn't have been attacked had he not been there." - That's an awful lot like saying a woman asked for it. "Commit murder and get charged with murder" - You can't prove murder. You can't even prove reckless endangerment.
15
@lykos89 "I work in a city 45 minutes away from my house in a different state. So by your logic, I live there now, eh?" - I didn't say he lived there... Do you have an actual argument or is strawman your last resort tactic? "And I know when I go to help a friend "clean up", I'm gonna take it in a mafioso sense, and bring a "street sweeper"." - He went there unarmed and was loaned a rifle. I'm pretty sure there's pictures of him without weapons that day. "If he didn't want to kill people, he wouldn't have conciously put himself in the exact circumstances where he "had to"." - You've just made self-defense illegal. By that logic any place you'd use self-defense was your fault.
13
@lykos89 "You said he went there like he does every day because he works there." - But I didn't say he lived there, like you implied I did. "Is his job cleaning up after riots?" - Is your job lecturing people on YouTube? "you're really gonna try to justify me killing people?" - If it's self-defense? Yes. It doesn't matter where you are, and what you decided to do to help out. Self-defense isn't conditional on decisions like that. "What about my argument makes self defense illegal?" - Because you can literally argue the same thing about anyone. Got mugged? Don't walk on dangerous streets. You're attacked by convenience store robbers? Don't go into convenience stores at night. Oh someone broke into your house? Should have moved to a safer area. "I stab a guy to death, get attacked again, stab another guy to death, another guy pulls out a knife and I slash him pretty deep." - You'd have a tough time convicting that person. Seriously. The kid isn't responsible for what the attackers did. They consented to the fight by becoming the aggressors and lost.
11
@lykos89 "Just because something isn't illegal, doesn't make it ethical" - Then if it's not illegal it doesn't matter in a court of law. And seriously? What exactly is unethical about freedom of travel? "As far as blaming women, ha! That's hilarious." - It's not hilarious. You're blaming Kyle for being attacked. You can't even admit the attackers have agency of their own. Kyle somehow schemed to kill them, and somehow took advantage of them through mind tricks to do the deed. You are doing the "don't wear a skirt" or "don't take the bus at night" because you're taking the stance that if you go to a certain place you know what's going to happen. "to kill people " - YOU CAN'T PROVE THAT. You can't prove Kyle's intent. You've already made a judgement before the trial even started. Please. Drop it. "nice mental gymnastics there" - It's not mental gymnastics. You're the one blaming Kyle for his attackers' actions.
9
@l.w.paradis2108 "A person cannot create the conditions that require self-defense and then claim self-defense" - How did he create the conditions? By putting out fires? "Rittenhouse was in a place where he had no business being" - So people have no right to go anywhere without a reason? Papers please? Cops on every corner? "openly carrying an assault-style firearm" - Define assault-style and define why that matters. "At least two of the people he shot reasonably believed they were disarming a possible mass shooter." - So anyone can tackle you in the street and claim they thought you were a mass shooter? "Therefore, THEY had a right to claim self-defense or defense of others against lethal bodily harm." - How? They were aggressors.
6
All documentaries are propaganda to a degree.
4
@lykos89 "He willing went into a violent situation" - He went there for the clean up efforts. "hoping to take advantage of it to commit violence." - You can't prove it. Stick to what you can prove in court or you already lost. "If we apply the rape analogy you want to use against me to my logic, then women actually put themselves into situations where they are willing to be raped in order to... what?" - You're the one saying the women put themselves in that situation. I'm saying THEY DIDN'T. A woman should be able to go anywhere and dress how she wants, it's always the criminal's fault. Not the victim's. You can say there's risky behaviors, but a risky behavior doesn't justify a crime. "And who are you to equivocate rape to property damage?" - I didn't? You got something wrong there. "Do you really think a woman's bodily automity is the same as property rights?" - Huh... a woman's body is her property so she holds property rights over it. I still think you got the wires crossed there because that wasn't the argument. The argument is about delineating behaviors that people shouldn't adopt or else "they're asking for it". It has nothing to do with the property damage. "This is why your argument is mental gymnastics. False equivalency." - You're just shotgunning words now.
3
@l.w.paradis2108 "You come upon a man shooting an unarmed man. You know nothing more." - The unarmed man was beating down the shooter. I know that. "If you attempt to disarm the shooter, you can claim self-defense/defense of others" - So people using self-defense have to just be beaten and possibly killed by other people in self-defense? Where does that stop? You think it's reassuring that then someone else arrives and sees someone being disarmed, and attacks the first witness, and then a third witness arrives and sees the second witness disarming the first?
3
Nunya Bidness "i wouldnt put myself in a position like that to be chased by a "mob" " - Blaming the victim.
3
@l.w.paradis2108 If you had an argument, you wouldn't be ashamed to present it. You claim there's a magic loophole that automatically invalidates self-defense. It doesn't exist. That's Dunning-Kruger. Not me asking for a real argument.
3
@l.w.paradis2108 Like I already pointed out, Bernie Goetz carried an illegal firearm in New York City and was cleared of the homicide charges over self-defense. He served 8 months over the illegal gun. The gun being illegal doesn't make the shooting illegal.
2
@l.w.paradis2108 "If you see someone shooting an unarmed person" - That unarmed person was attacking Kyle. "knowing nothing more, and you try to disarm him, HOW ARE YOU THE AGGRESSOR?" - So by your logic if you see a self-defense situation, and knowing nothing more, you'll try and disarm the defender?
2
@l.w.paradis2108 "Here we're talking about trained grownups" - Cops are not trained lmao "but there was no liability, for obvious reasons" - Because they were COPS. Anyone else would be held liable.
2
@lykos89 "Rittenhouse committing violence as an outsider of the community" - is he an outsider when he worked in that city?
2
@l.w.paradis2108 "I had students tell me they should have a right to bring their guns to class, and when I pointed out that most teachers would refuse to teach under those conditions, I was told the teachers are welcome to find other jobs." - lmao
2
@lykos89 "Do you travel the world going into warzones" - So the protesters are waging war? Wouldn't that actually justify using violence to stop the violence? "strapped up" - Stay strapped or get clapped. "Are you gonna go willingly to Syria strapped to the nines to help, "clean up", or to kill people?" - You know this is BS. Kenosha was not Syria. He spent the day cleaning up and then was loaned a firearm for protection. Plus, what's even the point of calling Kenosha "Syria"? Are the protesters ISIS? "Either you are an idiot, or you want to kill people. Be glad I don't consider you an idiot." - Yeah you're just calling me a psychopath, which is objectively worse. You have no arguments, only insults.
2
@lykos89 "So human life < property damage to you then? " - The people who damage property think that property is worth losing their life over. Or from another perspective, property is what we achieve when we trade our limited time on this Earth for material games. If you destroy property, you're robbing years out of someone's life.
2
@l.w.paradis2108 "Openly carrying a large" - The larger a firearm is the better. The vast majority of firearms homicides are committed with handguns because they are concealable. The firearms laws say rifles have to be 26" overall at minimum and have at least 16" barrels. Cutting down a rifle to be smaller is a crime if you do not register it with the ATF. "assault-style weapon" - Define assault style and define why that matters. "of the type insurgents often use in battle" - Also the type that millions of legal gun owners use. The bolt action rifle? Used by the Nazis in WWII. Lever action rifles? Used to kill native Americans. All types of rifles were used for battle and genocide.
2
@lykos89 "Riots against police brutality justifies premeditated murder" - They weren't rioting against police, they were chasing and beating a downed person.
2
@l.w.paradis2108 "no father in the picture, an overwrought mother who had just declared bankruptcy in 2018 or something" - suddenly liberals are for the traditional family and financial responsibility
2
@lykos89 "Stating something of no substance and providing no evidence to back it" - You keep claiming Kyle intended to kill people with no evidence.
2
Nunya Bidness Bernie Goetz illegally carried a gun in NYC and shot people in self-defense. He only did time for the illegal gun. You can still claim self-defense.
2
Nunya Bidness "all the maimed guy has to claim is that he was making a lawful attempt to disarm a minor" - Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure he actually admitted in an interview he wished he had killed Kyle. "The girlfriend of one of the men who died is already on record as saying he was trying to disarm this little murderer" - What does the girlfriend know? Maybe her man should have been with her that night instead of beating down kids.
2
@lykos89 "You don't put yourself in the path of violence" - So don't live in poor areas? Don't walk at night? Don't go to gas stations or convenience stores? Don't go to the bus station? Don't go on that underpass? "equipped with the capacity to commit violence" - I'm always equipped with that capacity. Doesn't mean I want to.
1
@l.w.paradis2108 "be hired as armed guards of property during civil unrest" - there was no hiring process.
1
@l.w.paradis2108 "why do you think Rittenhouse was indicted?" - This is an extremely funny question. Nobody wanted to actually prosecute Zimmerman until public pressure forced it. While you create a strawman you ignore that prosecution isn't purely objective. Sometimes you want to make an example out of someone. Sometimes you may not want to ruin your statistics with a failure to convict someone but public pressure forces you to. "I suggest you find out when self-defense legally applies." - I've said this about 5 times now. Bernie Goetz bought a gun, brought it illegally into NYC, carried it illegally in NYC, and walked on the homicide charges because it was self-defense. He served 8 months over the gun. But self-defense still applied.
1
@l.w.paradis2108 "In the first altercation, R used his firearm recklessly. After that, he cannot assert self-defense" - Did you write that law? Buddy, you're looking for the thinnest straw to grasp. No, you won't get your magic obscure loophole that automatically grants you victory. "he cannot assert self-defense when others who saw what he did attempted to disarm hi" - Watch. "the prosecution's legal theory is solid" - Solid as pudding. "Obvious you did no research." - Obviously you have no argument. If you have nothing to say, don't post at all. If you want to be right you have to work for it.
1
@l.w.paradis2108 I never called anyone any names.
1
@l.w.paradis2108 I'm sorry you don't know that a theory of a case isn't the law. Zimmerman's prosecution was also a complete clustertruck and his defense failed to dismiss the charges.
1
@l.w.paradis2108 "A theory of the case is not "law" but it must be based on the law" - You can base whatever you want on the law, and still be wrong. Otherwise there would be no "not guilty" verdicts. "It would have already been dismissed" - Zimmerman's case was not dismissed either. He walked. "and reason to believe that the FACTS show the law(s) was (were) violated by the accused" - Again, we only have to look at Zimmerman's case. He wasn't supposed to be charged. He had to be due to public pressure. "This is just sad." - Says the person who thinks charges not being dismissed equals conviction.
1
@l.w.paradis2108 "A "not guilty" verdict doesn't mean the prosecutor was "wrong." It means he failed to prove his case." - Same thing. If you can't prove something you're considered wrong by default. Come back an prove it, and you'll be right. "If there were no way to prove the case, then it shouldn't be brought." - There was no way to prove second degree murder in Zimmerman's case either, and they still pressed on. And lost.
1
@Rick Ramsey And we'll continue burning fossil fuels because developing countries want a fair shot at development too. Don't worry, documentaries wouldn't have killed fossil fuels.
1
@Rick Ramsey We'll have lost a few small islands because the sea level infiltrated fresh water supplies but that's pretty much it.
1
@Rick Ramsey Considering that climate models predicted warming 2.2 times higher than we had from 1998 to 2014, you can multiply those decades by 2.2 to get the real number. Either way, we have nuclear. Just saying. There's an easy way out for this.
1
@Rick Ramsey "We could easily have our own Fukushima event here" - It was called Three Mile Island. Fukushima was an alignment of the planets event. The plant resisted the earthquake, it even resisted the tsunami despite the undersized sea wall. The switching stations and diesel backup generators were placed in the basement levels, which flooded... Without that, people today would think Fukushima was a type of sushi roll.
