Ukraine is fighting mercenaries motivated by money, and people who through months of conflict are battle hardened to some degree. Sending untrained troops to the meat grinder will only cause the Russian death toll to increase.

Ukraine demonstrates they can undo months of effort and thousands of Russian deaths. They make it look easy and sends the message to the Russian soldiers - "you will die for ground that we'll recover in a day".

The capital is never undefended. How was it a trap when Russian special forces, airborne units, etc got slaughtered trying to reach Kiev? A mad rush through roads meant the Ukrainians only had to hide and fire rockets at passing vehicles to create massive casualties. The pictures are online, burned out IFVs and trucks with lifeless bodies collapsed around them. This was a trap? For the Russians. They stepped on it and paid dearly by losing elite fighting units.

This means a critical defensive position had to be supplied by rail from the North. The seizure of Kupiansk will undo the entire defense of Luhansk, which will undo the defense of Donetsk. This offensive greatly accelerated the collapse of more fronts in the East. Russia does not have the resources to commit, they already deployed 120 of their combat capable 170 BTGs (Shoigu, 2021). All they can do now is throw untrained men in antique tanks at the meat grinder. Russia tried shock and awe the first day. They launched massive volleys of cruise and ballistic missiles. They were under the moral barrel. Russia has shown to be beneath any invading force I've ever seen in the modern world.
