  1. To be fair, the US also does that - it's a flight line, they're not stored but ready to go. The US Air Force keeps them under square rain covers. The real protection is the revetments, which you can see in the North of the base. But the explosion was so massive, even the aircraft in the revetments probably got hit hy debris once they fell back down.

  2. Just as a heads up, Russian soldiers are technically allowed to quit because they're not at war. They get put on walls of shame and are pressured not to quit, but they can. If you don't agree with the war, but you load the bombs on the planes that go into Ukraine to drop them, you're still contributing to the war effort.
