That's not the point. He isn't making the argument that guns are just like knives, he's saying that the assumptions made by the ATF were completely outlandish.

That question hinges on the premise that the gun is anything out of the ordinary. You have an opinion on what kinds of guns are "acceptable" and "questionable" and it's impossible to answer the question - if I owned rifles that looked different, and outside of them costing more, being less accurate and less practical, performed the same, you wouldn't even pose the question. Although I know it's a cheap shot to answer a question with another question - could you first explain what you find objectionable?

@topmodelbaby100 It's an "everything" viewpoint. It's like asking me why I have a red car or a black coffee pot. Is the red car offensive in some way? The implication sounded like AR-15s are not legal in Scandinavia but they are used there for legal purposes. There's sport shooters. There's hunters. There's collectors. They're guns just like any other, just cursed by the fact that economies of scale made them common and cheap, so they appear on the news.

@topmodelbaby100 Look up on youtube "Finnish Brutality". It's a shooting match in Finland of the "two-gun" type. Finland is in Scandinavia, right? Semi-automatic is the default. In the old days technology didn't allow semi-automatic operation to be reliable, so after each shot it was the user who had to manipulate the bolt. In the modern days it's easy to manufacture systems that typically tap some of the gas from the combustion to operate the weapon. If you're defending yourself, you're in a situation where you can get injured. Miss the first shot, your arm gets injured... now you have trouble operating the action manually.

@topmodelbaby100 Don't think about the household object. Your initial premise was that some weapons are okay to own and others are objectionable. So the blue car is okay, and the white coffee pot is okay. But the red car and the black coffee pot? Well now we have to start asking questions. Don't think about the household object, focus on why you're okay with some things and not with others. I'm pretty sure it's not legal to own bombs in Scandinavia. Guns are legal. So why are you using Reductio Ad Absurdum tactics? You mentioned Scandinavia. Now you're narrowing down to Denmark. Okay. I'm still going to point out that AR-15s are legal in other Scandinavian countries, Germany, Poland, France, etc. so I don't think it's particularly relevant to try and narrow down the area of interest.

They didn't set out to do it, but took victory photos in front of the charred bodies anyway.

@dwayneasher6765 It's a joke that if you talk about certain government activities they kill you. Gary Webb exposed the government's role in the drug trade and his death was ruled a suicide. But he had two gunshot wounds.

It's the most commonly purchased rifle in the US due to economies of scale. Of course that shooters will pick what's commonly available.

@ghilliem.g.5824 How is it reasonable to have police fire at you unprompted? They had already injured the cult leader with gunfire, that's significant.
1
@ghilliem.g.5824 It wasn't a standoff, the authorities rolled up and with the will to kill. What's the point of a dog killing fireteam if you're not about to breach? Owning arms is legal. They invited the ATF to search them, they refused. They wanted a big show. They planned for violence. They weren't scared, which is why they invited the ATF. They became scared when the authorities surrounded them and started shooting.

@jeremysmith4620 You're just regurgitating the same old talking points. They were not trying to cause the Apocalypse or a fight. The weapons were legal. If your issue is cults holding people against their will, the ATF is not in charge of those situations. The mortal danger was created by the feds. Sure, the marriage of children should have been made illegal. Where were the Texas lawmakers to prevent that?
1
@jeremysmith4620 Repeating the word "cult" does not invalidate the fact that they were wronged here. They were not starting the apocalypse. They weren't looking for a fight. The outside world did come to destroy them. Law enforcement ironically fulfilled their loony prophecy. Never fulfill prophecies. It always ends poorly. The ATF killed the children. Investigate the abuse? Nah. Just go Moscow Theater on them. Kill the bad guys, kill the good guys, let God sort them out. They didn't participate in an apocalypse. The ATF had no business investigating child abuse. Call CPS. A bank robber getting shot started the violence. If police surrounds a bank and starts shooting at people trying to make a deposit, they're the bad guys. Simple as. It's not illegal to be a religious nut. It's not illegal to hoard weapons. Society's laws? Which laws were broken? Texas lawmakers had DECADES to make the marriages illegal before they happened. Why wasn't your precious society speaking against it? Local law enforcement should have stepped in? And do what? What would be the charges, Mr. Laws? I'm giving dozens of people the benefit of the doubt. You're the one hyperfocused on one man with so much rage, you'll burn dozens of people with him.

@piggy201 Yes, citizens have the right to fire at law enforcement. Several courts have determined that it's legal.
1
@piggy201 They didn't want to come out because the authorities fired first. The authorities actually were engaged in criminal acts at the time of the siege, so had Koresh survived he'd probably have been cleared by the courts thanks to all the evidence in his favor.
1
@piggy201 Critical evidence that would help determine who fired first went missing. Convenient. Yeah, there's legal precedent. Randy Weaver for example was cleared of the murder charges and only served time for weapons-related offenses. There's multiple cases in the last decade of people firing on no-knock raiders and getting off thanks to self-defense. Yeah, they could have surrendered. But people are stubborn and will not surrender to people who brought the aggression to them first. The authorities also didn't ease up the siege. Imprisoned over what? If the ATF wasn't going to find illegal weapons, they'd be cleared of all charges. Wacky religious beliefs are not a legal offense. Complain all you want, it's irrelevant to the argument. Compliance? Look up Daniel Shaver. Look at what complying with power-drunk officers gets you. Lawful demands? The authorities had to act lawful first.
1
@piggy201 They didn't step on the front law, they fired on an unarmed Koresh.
1
That's a ridiculous argument. So it's car culture's fault if the DMV had people killed in a raid over cars that weren't street legal. Or the drug's culture's fault if the DEA killed a bunch of teens over suspicion of having a weed plant.
1
This has to be bait.
1
@thecrimsonmeteor You're unironically against the rule of law. To use force against a group, you have to use the legitimate process. By opening fire first, the law enforcement automatically made themselves criminals.
