  1. The fact that it's old is precisely why it drains so many resources to keep flying. It hasn't paid for itself, in 2010-2019 the US government paid Boeing 1 billion for new wings, and then signed another 1 billion dollar contract for more. Aircraft do not like to fly past their safe limit.
