MisterTutor2010 "I'm going to excuse poor writing because of genre" maybe they could go against the grain and make something good for a change?

nayan prakash "they will be caught" so what? They were caught claiming that the X-men are called that because of Prof Xavier in a joke when in fact it due to the X-Gene. Millions of people don't know that and laughed at the C-men joke that was set up poorly.

It does because the funny part is based on a false premise. AKA the joke could be about anything at all, the science is merely a backdrop. All in all, TBBT is only superficially about science/nerds - it's just a Chuck Lorre comedy with a lick of paint over it.

+Paul Jordan but you can make fun of a real culture without being stale and just plainly offensive. Look at Bondoocks. A show where the joke is "ahah they play nintendo 64, NEEEERDS" several times per season is not any more funny than a show where all the jokes are about blacks having absent fathers. You can make a funny joke about the subject. But "ahah your father left, how about them black people huh?" isn't a punchline worthy of a laugh. Is racism worse than mocking nerds? Sure. Does it make TBBT funnier? Nope.

Eric Lytle seems like this video is more successful than anything you've ever done so you're throwing rocks at it.

+swamidude Penny plays the dumb blonde role for a while but she became the "everyman" character on the show. She starts to understand references to nerd culture, even some science and the fact that she has more social skills than the rest of the main cast progressively makes her look less naive and more "people smart". The dumb blonde stereotype is neither "people smart" nor "book smart".

Judson Joist Seth McFarlane doesn't go online for memes, he watches old shit and then references stuff from the 1930's that take a google search to understand.

+luna li you can in the sense of them being analogues. Is hating people for their race worse than hating people for being nerds? Who cares, that's not what is being discussed - it's the fact that having repetitive jokes at the expense of a race stops being funny real quick (again, compare to Bondoocks which actually has pretty good race-related humor), and doing the exact same to a subculture also is not funny. Is a subculture the same as a ethnic group? No. Is the type of comedy better if you do it to a subculture? Also no, and they don't have to be the same for the answer to be no.

Joshua Pearce then remove the laughs, but do cuts to remove the awkward pauses. Still unfunny. Or there's an edit where it's just one person laughing. Doesn't modify the timing, but it doesn't have the effect of the laugh track. Still horrible.

Arthur Fisher there's a whole prank called No Soap Radio that exists solely to try and cause people to laugh at a joke they possibly couldn't get by coordinating with a group of people to laugh at the nonsensical punchline. Laughing is a social tool.

Darin Beard it was already explained in this thread that they record with a live audience, but they don't record the audience because they can't control how good they sound, so they fill the blanks with canned laughter. You can listen to it, it's too consistent. And that's kind of the point, they don't want to deal with inconsistent audiences.

Aesahethr they are 51% of the voting population and don't have power?

The only joke of that type I actually liked was something about a chicken and and engineer and the punchline was "you have to consider the chicken to be constrained to a single point and neglect air resistance". That's funny. It was also told as a context of a joke inside the show, because they can't write dialogue that funny. Just mentioning something I find relatable isn't enough to provoke laughter.

FrigginSweet if you have no stake in it why are you defending it? Seems like someone is way too invested and defensive of a bad show that supposedly we have no stakes on.
2
+FrigginSweet societal gauges also say communism and nazism are pretty good because they were popular in their time. And they massacred hundreds of millions of people. Only slightly worse than TBBT.

I didn't do anything here. You're the one saying that criticism stems from envy. Seems like you're envious.
