  1. Many countries bought them without entering an air war. Depending on where you live, your own country may have purchesed a few hundred of a more recent generation of sidewinders, and they're bolted to intercepting aircraft. If there's no intrusion in your air space that warrants a shootdown, they will never get fired in anger.

  2. War would be worse if there weren't weapons that deter air power. I'll take a weapon that shreds an aircraft apart instead of letting it bomb civilians in my cities.
