  1. I've wrapped my head around this question for over a decade, and I've come to think not that many people are involved in the grand scheme of things, many genuinely enjoy the line of work and wouldn't be much use elsewhere, and peaceful research is aided by military research anyway.

  2.  @JohnDoe-jp4em  the point is evading defenses. Once a HGV enters the defensive sphere for terminal attack it can't just turn a degree to evade interceptors. It will miss entirely. And while a 1 degree redirection means a huge offset at distance, it does little to make the interceptor miss the predicted flight path.

  4.  @JohnDoe-jp4em  That's not true. Interceptors continuously predict the impact point and fly towards it. If the projected flight path moves by a few kilometers, the interceptor can fly a few kilometers to adjust. The HGV can't waste the kinetic energy of the interceptor, because it spends so much energy trying to turn at high Mach speeds.

  8. The US flew hypersonic aircraft in the 1960s and has flight tested hypersonic cruise missiles since 2004. Unlike others the US doesn't need to hype its projects.

  13.  @ericsuarez834  Ukraine did hold Russia back in 2014, the perfect raid counterpunched an advancing Russian force which would crush Ukrainian defensive lines and encircle a large amount of troops.
