When Russia mobilized, people were found with recent military papers in their bodies just a week later. One week at home in Russia, next week rotting in the mud in Ukraine. Russia's mobilization was a crime against humanity. Takes time to grind that much meat.

Try to "just retreat" when the Ukrainian army is shelling your only road to freedom. I want to see you do it. Big talk from a big man, why don't you show us how simple and easy it is to "just" retreat?

Huuhhhh didn't the Patriot arrive already?

"Reading information from both sides" so you're consuming media from an authoritarian state doing the Baghdad Bob routine. Yeah...

@attilamarics3374 Reports by whom? Russia claims to have destroyed the Ukrainian air force three times over.

Budapest Memorandum.

You're now aware that the US securing air supremacy is the exception rather than the rule. If both sides have their air assets denied, they can operate without superiority.

@EEDIR-DK "Hybrid" is difficult to pin down, but assymetric isn't a huge part. For example, using civilians in Crimea as human shields to prevent a shootout with the Ukrainian military may by assymetric, but the real hybrid part is how the troops carried no identification insignia and Moscow insisted they were locals. Then government buildings were seized and Crimean representatives asked for Russia to intervine after the job was already done. Hybrid is using PMCs, and when asked about it saying "what do you mean? PMCs are illegal in our country". Hybrid is attacking, waiting for the counter, and because nobody is paying attention claim you were attacked first. It's starting offensives in the same week ISIL took Mosul. It's coming out with 6 different conspiracy theories that blame MH17 on Ukraine or the West. Espionage, deception, etc always happened. But we later got to see what happened when we fell for it. Hybrid warfare is having us still disagreeing about events that took place 8 years ago.

@gabbisss They didn't retreat immediately. They tried to hold onto every town to stabilize the line. We have both the visual confirmation of reinforcements, the videos taken from the Russian side of battles for towns, and the videos of cheering Russians speeding in the back of trucks after surviving a battle. There was a ton of fighting.

@OzzyBloke a sortie includes just taking off and landing. Useless metric. Combat sorties matter way more.

@theangrycheeto Saab manufactured too few Gripens. There's no discussion because they essentially don't exist. They're either getting scrapped, just recently manufactured E variants that nobody will give up or countries depend on a very small number of them for defense. Brazil has a Gripen contract, and Lula just had to be "persuaded" to go back on his statement that both sides were at fault for the war. Dude obviously has some alleigance to Putin, he'd never give up Gripens even if they had a hundred of them.

A few glide bombs don't change a war.

@cornelkittell9926 They weren't reservists. They were civilians. The reservists were in BARS units which were in Ukraine prior to mobilization. They were famously involved in the Kharkiv rout, forced to retreat under shelling.

@cornelkittell9926 You're using the "western" terminology. A reservist is someone who is considered to be in reserve, part of the reserve forces. They're military, but not active duty. Usually, after a few years, you are removed from reserve duty and become a civilian. That's when you're retired from the military. The Russians are calling everyone with a prior conscription service a "reservist". The problem is, every man in Russia bar a few exceptions is supposed to serve a conscription year. So EVERY. SINGLE. MALE. in Russia is in theory a reservist. Even those who evaded conscription with minor health issues are still given a military card that allows them to be mobilized in case of war. The reservists in Russia are BARS units. They were deployed early in 2022. The 300k mobilization are JUST MEN. JUST CIVILIANS GIVEN A UNIFORM AND A GUN. They are NOT reservists as they were not part of a reserve force that conducts training. They're just MEN.

@cornelkittell9926 What you heard and what is true isn't the same. Technically, every man in Russia has prior training. Problem is, many men evade conscription and many conscripts never got training. In Russia conscription is known to be a wasted year. I suggest reading a translation of "ZOV 56" by Pavel Filatyev - a memoir written about the poor state of the Russian armed forces by a man who was wounded in the first few months of the war, and served both as a conscript and a contract soldier. Of course you do not see the utility in calling untrained personnel. Most personnel in Russia is untrained. Tough luck. You're applying your logic to Russia. There's a reason Russia sent many mobilized men to be trained in Belarus. Why would already trained men be put through basic training again? Conscript training is a joke. Since conscripts would never be used in an expeditionary war, and Russia has nuclear deterrence against foreign invasion, it was never a high priority to actually train them.
