Before jammers the FPVs lost signal too. That's just the ground clutter causing signal loss. Signal is generally line of sight, with diffraction helping gain a little more range. But once you're close to the ground you lose signal. You can tell it's not jamming when they dive, lose signal, bring the drone up to take another look and then dive again. The wavelength for the controls is still able to reach while the video feed can't. A jammer would lock the controls.

@dr.mortem6050 There was footage of a tank being hit and like 20 people start running. Looked like baby spiders running off their momma spider's back.

@Damian_CS2 The difference being that supply troops were being ambushed as there were no defined frontlines. Nobody judges supply troops for wanting to uparmor their Bukhanka, but this? This is a disgrace.

It would work by preventing pinpointing weak spots. Those air gaps would only minimally reduce penetration.

The problem is that "Buratino" could cause confusion.

Doesn't help against HEAT, it just hides weak spots. That's why they use metal plate rather than chain link fencing.

@МихаилВарламов-ж5ъ The fragmentation is minimal, in fact improvised frag sleeves were made for PG-7V warheads. HEAT forms a jet. That jet impacts metal. The metal cracks open and forms even more fragments on the other side.

For a warhead the diameter of a RPG it would take more than 1 meter of spacing.

@momopirou3107 But slat armor does not serve the same purpose. Slat armor is made to cause a short circuit in the warhead cone and shred the main charge containing the copper cone. Slat armor is not made to pre-detonate a PG-7V. It's made to destroy the fuzing system and preferably damage the explosive section enough so that if the self-destruct timer goes off the explosive is detonated but there's no jet formation. Slat armor is called statistical armor, if the fuzing impacts the slat it will detonate properly and the HEAT round will function. But there's a 90% or so chance the warhead will slip the fuze between the slats and the cage then destroys the warhead behind it before the fuze can touch the skin of the vehicle. Cage armor is designed to offer minimal chance for the fuze to hit it, as it has to impact the slats dead on.

It was different because that was supply troops who could be ambushed anywhere in the country as Afghanistan/Iraq had no frontlines. This was made for frontline assault. If Americans were doing this the public outcry would be savage and we'd have Congressional hearings about this.

@Charles-k9g5y You're severely misunderstanding what I said. I said that if what we're seeing of the Russian army happened to American soldiers, we'd be seeing rioting in the streets.

You're welcome to join the winning team if this is what winning looks like.

There's also videos of them going high order.
