  2. Ukraine was a republic separate from the Russian republic in the Soviet Union. Ukraine split from the Soviet Union in 1991, before it collapsed. Russia is in no way in a union with Ukraine. The states composing the CSA did join a union and were part of the United States.

  4. No, it wasn't similar. The EU did a report and while it disagreed with some measures overall it was seem as just a promotion of national language. In the EU many countries have regulations on language, even going as far as limiting foreign language music broadcasts in radio to promote domestic music and language.

  5. They're not mercenaries. Just like people who fought in the Spanish cvil war are called "volunteers" and those who join the French Foreign Legion are called legionnaires. To be a mercenary you have to fight for profit. You earn more working at a fast food place in the US than in Ukraine.

  12. They're not "misinformed". Things aren't as simple as just having bad information. They looked at the state of things and see Russia defeating the US as a way to further their goals. You can give them all the information, the US is their boogeyman so they need a competing superpower.

  14. Not all freedoms. You are subject to military authority but soldiers are not cattle, and can disobey unjust orders. Then it's an issue for the courts.
