I'm European and despite no cultural ties to an idea of "frontier"/"homesteading" I think the toyboy appreciation comes from disillusionment with adulthood and a yearning for the simplicity of our early lives. And back then girls would have their own groups separate from boys, tomboys being the only ones to cross the divide and play with us. But it's sort of demoralizing to see that the options are either a country full of retirees or immigrants because whenever the issue is mentioned the majority of people who oppose immigration go "we need more gibs, then we'll have children". It's actually pretty rational to assume Zelensky would tuck tail and run, but from his perspective he probably thought that running would force him to live the rest of his life in shame so he'd unironically rather get killed in Kiev. This show of courage rallied the people and delayed what should have been an easy incursion.

If they had instead ran alongside the inside perimeter of the base, we'd have learned nothing new except knowing which base had more runners.

In this case, for the purpose of installing your own. There are weirdly interesting safeties in some warhead designs, one is a chain inside a hollow core that prevents the compression of the fissile material. When you arm the nuke, along other electronic safeties being disabled, a drum starts rotating and winds the chain out of the core. If you have your own electronics to set off the EBW detonators and a new motor to rotate that drum, you now have a nuke you can control. That's just an example because I don't think anyone else but the British used the chain safety but I could be wrong.

Spread does not correlate to introduction of mask mandates or compliancy rates so even if you bring up studies that say they work (and ignore the ones that say it doesn't) it's impossible to see those studies translated to actual results in the real world. So in the end, the definition of "working" is compromised by the intended use-case. Regarding your second point, you're trying to dodge your own premises. By your own account, the mask is only effective at suppressing spread from symptomatic cases, and even then a cough or a sneeze will create a positive pressure area that will push the mask away from one's face unless they're using a higher grade of PPE, which almost nobody does. Forcing asymptomatic people to be wearing a mask that only works against symptoms they don't have is the equivalent of of forcing everyone to wear a diaper even when they don't have diarrhea. The incubation period? Your own argument is that masks reduce spread in the post-incubation phase. We started with masks and now we have police using live rounds against protesters in the Netherlands. Do not come here and talk about small impositions. They all stack on top of one another. So mass is used in place of accuracy, as the sheer density of fire suppresses and destroys the target. But it's not the Cold War anymore. We don't have millions of men in the frontline. We have half a dozen dudes manning a trench and they either dig in the bunker or abandon their position. Firing thousands of shells at a treeline does nothing if the soldiers just left the position and return after the barrage is over. So right now they're mostly tossing artillery shells at each other. There isn't much air activity because from what I understand, Russia is hesitant about friendly fire. A ton of Russian and Ukranian ground vehicles are modernized variants of Cold War Soviet equipment and comms are tricky, the Russians seem to be relying on CB radio and cellphones so it would be difficult to call in close air support without them bombing themselves by mistake. The war isn't very well hidden. We've seen footage of drones attacking convoys, Ukrainians firing Stingers, Javelins and RPG-29s at Russian vehicles (there's a MANPADS helicopter kill on video), and Russian forces rolling into towns when the Ukrainian forces retreated. I've also seen some guy who tried to molotov Russian vehicles and got shot, the body of some guy who probably took an autocannon round to the head and had no face anymore, videos of convoys with bodies burnt to a crisp. The stuff's not hidden at all.

Most of Europe passed gun control as a way to collect taxes or a response to situations like danger of revolution because the gun crime was never a big of a deal. The problem with your argument is that by that logic, crime should be higher outside of Chicago. The fact that it isn't proves it's not the guns, it's the society. The F-35 looking stubby is due to the natural evolution of the project, not STOVL requirements. Regarding speed, many aircraft have legendary top speeds only reached at specific altitudes, without much fuel and absolutely no weapons. So those aircraft never reached their top speeds in combat. When the rubber meets the road, pilots say that a F-16 has to punch in afterburner to keep up with a F-35 in dry thrust. Not bad for a stubby aircraft. Regarding the concurrency, that's actually an advantage. Remember the F-15? The USAF received hundreds of A variant F-15s. After just 5 years of service, the USAF sent those to the Air National Guard as they started taking in F-15C deliveries. This was a common occurrence. Aircraft manufacturers "finished" an aircraft, sold that early variant, then only really "completed" the design with a more modern variant. That's needlessly expensive. Meanwhile a hundred F-35s Block II have been converted to Block III. Aircraft that would have to be retired, sent to the national guard or sold to allied countries for a discount could be reused to become more advanced. It looks an expensive way of doing business, as long as you ignore that in the good old days the US taxpayer paid for hundreds of aircraft that would only serve for 5 years in the USAF.

That's not miniscule. The equipment damaged is also a huge factor, and even if they sent older stock the losses are not recoverable in this economy.
