  10. That's not what happened. Al Qaeda was a self-funded venture by Saudi billionaire playboy Osama Bin Laden. They never had US support and were never betrayed by the US. OBL's quarrel with the US was the fact that Saudi Arabia rejected his help to fight off Saddam's forces in Kuwait. The Afghan Mujahideen were supported by the US. In 2001 when the US invaded Afghanistan they linked up with their allied Mujahideen in the Northern Alliance and fought the Taliban side by side.
