@eugenetswong It's extremely important to keep Navy SEALs within context. They were deployed at a pretty high tempo, which involved giving them missions where a high tier unit isn't necessary. They also often had regular infantry forming a security cordon around their operation. Their land warfare capabilities are also regarded as weaker because they're Navy. The point being that SEALs are meant to be frogmen, and their historical role is underwater demolition. In Vietnam their role was expanded to include land warfare. But the type of mission being discussed here is more suitable to CAG ("Delta Force") and even then they'd need CIA assistance.

@thef0urth326 The temperature records are adjusted, did you know that? Solar pannels do not make you self-reliant, you can uncouple from the grid but now you're dependent on high tech just the same. You can't easily manufacture the silicon wafers. You can't easily manufacture the inverters which give you AC power from DC generation (although you could use a DC motor to spin an AC generator). Deep cycle batteries wouldn't be hard but what about battery controllers? PV cells will most likely work well for 30 years and maybe even do 50 if no damage occurs. But anything craps out, you will have to turn to the system and ask them for help. That's not self-reliance. That's buying time. Which is helpful, but not the same.
