"Welcome to the Toyota dealership. Are you looking for an 80s shitbox or something where you can mount automatic weapons on the back?"

@snowflakemelter1172 Since a lot of equipment was developed or modified to fight a counter-insurgency, it's second-rate at actual defense. That's why the US is now spending money to gear up their forces for near-peer/peer conflict and the F-22 is going into early retirement because too few were produced.

@jkdbuck7670 Modern mercenaries are glorified mall guards compared to the golden age of contracting. They wish they could be under the UCMJ.

A fully militarized Germany had factories, railways, airfields, etc actual objectives you could attack to wear down their capacity to win until you close down on their capital and their leadership takes the cyanide or lead pill. The Taliban has nothing you can go after. Your enemy is nobody and everyone. Every time you strike, your actions anger the population and drive them to fight you. You kill the leaders, someone else takes their place.

Lmao I'm looking forward to the Dragon being bled dry trying to hold that place.

Depends. The Taliban were known to suppress poppy plantations, but this may have been due to them trying to control the supply. The plantations really flourished when they were driven back.

@Laneous14 Everyone with any access to power is a PDF file over there. When the Taliban were kicked out of certain regions, it would be the government forces that got into the Bacha Bazi. There was one green beret who beat up some police chief or ANA officer over it and had the charges dropped.

Before leaving, the base would have to have gone into lockdown. They'd notice the civilians who work there and whatnot being sent home.

@kylevernon "Giving up on Afghanistan means losing our military capabilities" - Actually, by leaving counterinsurgency behind they're increasing. "giving our enemies quarter" - They've always have it. "we should have treated terrorism like we did piracy" - It's easier to protect shipping lanes than every road and street corner.

@artruisjoew5473 That would only drive normal Afghans uninterested in the fighting to join the Taliban forces. They'll probably beat the highscore in terms of of suicides a day they manage to cause in the invading force.

@artruisjoew5473 Funny that you think that the Chinese wouldn't get slaughtered in the hills. You know, where even the Mongols didn't bother to go. Some of you people get off on praising the PLA when in their last conflict they got embarrassed by the Vietnamese. I'd pay the Taliban for footage of a PLA trying to operate in rough terrain where armored vehicles can't go. I wonder if they accept bitcoin.
