@inquaanate2393 Missing the point. Before the car even drives off the lot, it took as much CO2 emissions to manufacture the electric one as the ICE one. There's both a monetary and pollution cost when you acquire the electric car. It's gonna take around 10-15 years for the electric car to make up for the CO2 (the break even point where the ICE car keeps polluting) and depending on electricity costs where you live and how much you drive it could take 10-20 years for the lower energy prices to make up for the investment in electric. That's what people are pointing out. We're being asked to shell out tens of thousands for a financial decision that won't make sense for many people. Especially with programs to trade in used ICE cars and rebate the price on new electrics, it reduces the number of used cars on the road which increases second hand prices.

@Reindeer911 Nuclear waste has been figured out. It's the green activists who insist it hasn't.

@bubsnicket Okay, the price drops because there's a flood of vehicles, but new/refurbished batteries cost more because there's more people trying to buy 10 year old EVs. I hear Teslas new batteries last longer and are easier to reprocess but that's still ignoring the "backlog". There's a case in my country of someone who was trying to get a new battery for his EV (a Renault?) from the manufacturer and it cost him 9k euro. He left the waiting list to look somewhere else. Big mistake. He got on the waiting list again, price had jumped to 21k euro.

@valcaron Just recently hackers stole Nvidia certificates to conceal malware. As the old saying goes locks are only a delaying tactic. Never rely on a single layer of security if you're dealing with determined attackers.

@raztubes Horses are a pain to keep, ICE vehicles can be literally put in storage for decades and as long as you took precautions such as draining fluids they do fine. Try to not feed or water a horse for a month.

@ElementZephyr Hydrogen is garbage. If kept as a gas, it has terrible energy density. If kept as a liquid, it requires unreasonably thick and insulated tanks and you have no choice but to let it boil off gradually.
1
@raztubes What do you mean free cars? It costs money to keep the offspring too. If you sell them for money, then you're just a horse breeder. You don't even need the car to drive to your job anymore, because you have a new job! I know the horse analogy thing. Problem is, this time it's different. We're putting the cart before the horse, pun not intended. We're having EVs promoted to us and ICE discouraged when the infrastructure isn't there yet.

Their military equipment has been proven inferior in real combat. Apparently they make excellent shaving razors though, I've heard people lamenting how they might lose those imports.

I used to pirate games as a kid (not anymore) and even then companies were sticking all sorts of killswitches to disable the game if you didn't pay. One or two weeks later hackers would have a crack that would disable this feature and trick the anti-piracy to stop phoning home. There's simply no way to prevent people from changing how things work when they have access to the physical object. If push comes to shove it's even possible to desolder a chip from a board and reprogram it.

@SeniorSquidWFO I looked up "hacked tesla" and Rich Rebuilds did it.
1
@SeniorSquidWFO Because that's not the point and that car was manufactured before any law? The point is that if you can hack it, you can hack it. It's hacked. You're in control, you're God, you have full access. An LS swap would be even more unreasonable. So you have electric powered motors, and you make it harder for yourself by taking them out and replacing them? When all they need is being fed electric power to work? Sometimes I don't understand people. Do you not have imagination? You live your life based on seeing guard rails and thinking it's impossible to jump over them? Why the strict thinking? You can fool a computer into doing what you what, and your first thought is "doing anything else is impossible".

Cheaper fuel means an expansion of the economy which means more jobs. Paying Eastern Europeans also means they'll be able to afford imported goods so that means even more jobs. If you want Western Europeans to work the oil fields that's fine, but be mindful that to pay those Western Europeans higher wages you'll have to scale the economy back. And thus impoverish Western Europeans.

Same demand but lower supply means that to keep getting access to fuel you'll have to bid higher. If you don't someone else will buy it off you.
