  1. The issue is that the Netherlands does severely intensive farming. 20% of their farming is for domestic consumption, 80% is exported.

  9. Yes. And it's difficult to fix into the soil and water, which is why we use fertilizers.

  10.  @brianchecketts9792  I mean, just take what you said and apply intensive farming to it. Natural nitrogen fixing is slow. Farm a soil too much, it gets depleted. Add fertilizer to fix it, some ends up in ground water. Keep doing this, the water will have way more nitrogen and phosphorous than it would ever have naturally.
