@Nick46289 The reason for holding back is that going hard would defeat the entire purpose of the mission. The deployment sent into Ukraine is more than enough to seize Kiev, but not to engage in conqest in the entire territory. They clearly hoped Zelensky to tuck tail and run while an embarassed Ukranian populace simply moved on and accepted Putin's terms. Go figure, the dude actually stood his ground and now has a large percentage of the Ukranian people willing to fight for him. This is a wrench in Russia's plan as they hoped to just roll into Kiev with little yo no resistance.

@Dairy917 I believe Russia's generals must have found Hunter's crack pipes he left in Ukraine because anyone with above room temperature IQ can understand what's going on. I can't reach them for comment. You're actually asking me to stop believing my lying eyes and think this is a methodical occupation even though the number and quality of troops is not suitable for it.

They can't. The entire point was strongarming Ukraine into regime change. They need the next regime to be at least somewhat popular. If they go hard, they will have no loyalty from what's left of the military or the police. They will have to keep a permanent deployment to protect their own puppet state or else the populace would simply beat the stooges on the government buildings' steps while cops looked the other way.

They're not trying to capture the entire Ukraine (as of now), their main objective was Kiev to force a relatively smooth regime change, while linking up the forces from Crimea to the ones advancing from the Donbas region to encircle the fighters attacking the separatists. They failed because Russia's actions telegraph their expectation that the guy in charge would capitulate, now they're bogged down by their own failed prediction.
