Actually the American pilot was baited into a dogfight by a Chinese pilot, who climbed into a loop and jumped out while whipping his 50 cal sniper rifle, quickscoped the pilot and fell into the F-35 cockpit. I have 5000 hours in Battlefield games so I know it can be done.

@jacmeg1845 Even a person who isn't smart can eventually learn. It may require time and different techniques, but it's possible to break down knowledge to the point a 5 year old understands it. People who use the internet like that are sitting on the sidelines to double-down in conspiracies in every event that interests them, and claim it's a distraction from another conspiracy when it doesn't.

Actually, they do. Harriers are an early Cold War relic, they're as useful in the air as a dodo. Also, all fighters cost 100 million these days. That's the cost of aviation unless you buy used planes a country is already retiring.

We actually haven't recovered anything from deep space. Voyager 2 is the only man-made object that went into deep space and it will never come back.

The radio is usually on the aircraft. Pilots don't carry a Kenwood in their fight suit.

@556deltawolf It's "wasteful spending" today but if we didn't spend money Ukraine would still be fighting with former Soviet everything. We in America and Europe bought a bunch of stuff we didn't need so now we can pull it out of warehouses. If we didn't buy that stuff, then the VDV would not be an endangered species and would be headed to Lisbon right now.

Pretty much all weapons are weapons of aggression. Do you want to arm the country with landmines and Javelins only? Tanks can be hull down in defensive positions or charging the enemy lines. Defense and attack are required, if you defend your homeland you are required to go on the attack at some point to retake lost territory.

Dang I'd roll with the "Havana" callsign no problem.

I vent my frustrations online by dreaming up about Chinese spies and defectors to Havana under presidential orders 🤡

You can't just land it. The thing has the world's most powerful blowtorch sticking out the back and a fan that really shouldn't ingest hot air or debris. A small stretch of highway is flat, reasonably smooth and won't have a lot of debris beyond little bolts that fell off cars and empty cans tossed out of windows. In the middle of a wooded area or rough terrain? Not worth the risk.

Telemetry could be trying to phone home but have no line of sight to any receiver or repeater. That can also happen when you're not at high altitude.

This. For those not in the know, China has spammed a lot of pro-CCP rhetoric into the internet but where they call themselves "CPC" so that if you google CPC you end up in their disinfo websites. They go around claiming "CCP" is a hateful term made up by Westerners to invoke the CCCP (Soviet Union). However, most people who don't speak Russian probably don't know that USSR in Cyrillic is CCCP (C = S, P = R, Union = "Soyuz") so that conspiracy wouldn't even work.

A lot of times they eject precisely because they have no control. Those who retained control over a crashing aircraft often have to sacrifice themselves to keep the aircraft headed away from sensitive areas.

@errorcode1133 Buddy the military loves keeping everything under wraps. Remember the discord leaks that mostly included stuff you'd find online? Top secret. What were they hiding? Nothing, you could find that info on twitter. Thinking there's a conspiracy simply because the military isn't providing you a 1 hour powerpoint is dangerously closed to mental illness.

1.7 trillion HASN'T been spent. That's the cost of building, maintaining, flying, repairing and crewing a >2000 sized fleet of F-35s until retirement in the 2070s. There's almost 50 years to go until that money is spent. Half a century. There you go repeating disinformation.

Which is a twin engine because they can't make a Pratt & Whitney F-135.

The US sent Marines to recover as many as they could.
